Barcelona vs Liverpool betting preview

Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 22 matches in all competitions

Barcelona were crowned champions of Spain on Saturday night with a 1-0 home win over Levante with three games to spare. They are pushing for a treble over the course of the next month, with the Copa del Rey and Champions League to fight for. The Blaugrana have lost just one home game in the competition in the last ten years. Furthermore, they have made light work of English teams in this seasons’ Champions League, beating Tottenham 4-2 in the group stage and cruising past Manchester Utd 1-0 at Old Trafford and then 3-0 at the Camp Nou.

The hosts will welcome their talisman Leo Messi back into the starting XI after he was only a half-time introduction at the weekend. Philippe Coutinho or Ousmane Dembele are in contention for the third offensive berth alongside Luis Suarez. Ernesto Valverde must also decide whether to start the combative Arturo Vidal or more creative Ivan Rakitic in midfield, where Arthur and Sergi Busquets look sure to start. In defense, Sergi Roberto could come in for Nelson Semedo at right-back while Clement Lenglet is firmly ahead of Samuel Umtiti in the pecking order for places at centre-back. Rafinha is the only sidelined player.

Liverpool have won their last 10 games in all competitions

Liverpool trashed Huddersfield 5-0 at the weekend to remain within touching distance of league leaders Manchester City going into the final few weeks of the season. Jurgen Klopp's side crushed Porto 6-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals but they have not kept a clean sheet in any of their five away games in the Champions League. They lost all three away matches in the group stages but triumphed in both of the away legs in their previous two knockout ties - 3-1 and 4-1 at Bayern Munich and Porto respectively. Jurgen Klopp's men are bound to take particular encouragement from Barcelona's recent 4-4 draw against Villarreal, when the Catalans were continually ripped apart at the back by sheer pace.

The visitors are sweating over the fitness of Roberto Firmino, who missed last weekend's game due to a small groin tear. As a result, Sadio Manè and Mo Salah could be joined by Xherdan Shaqiri or Daniel Sturridge should the Brazilian miss out. Fabinho should be fully recovered and is likely to feature from the off, joining Jordan Henderson and Georgino Wijnaldum in the middle of the park. Naby Keita is a viable option in midfield. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Joe Gomez have both returned from long-term injuries but they are expected to be benched.
