Championship Betting Tips

Last years's English second-tier league was unpredictable down to the last day, but despite that there was plenty of profit and knowledge impressively shared by BetAndSkill's football tipsters.

This year's Championship will see a number of returning faces, with Watford, Burnley and Norwich all looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League following relegation last season.

The Championship offers punters plenty of opportunity to find betting value right through the football season. We suggest you to bookmark this page and check our recommended tips as soon as a new Championship matchweek approaches.

How Our Championship Predictions Work

On this page, you have found a list of games for the upcoming days alongside a number at the end of the fixture. This is our way of offering you our opinion.

All our tips on this page are for the match result market and we place a number by each game dependent on which result we predict.

There are four different outcomes we predict - 1, 2, 1X and X2.

These mean different things, with each outcome explained below.

1: A number 1 next to the fixture is our indication we predict the home team to win.

2: The number 2 is our prediction that the away team will win.

1X: A 1X means we’d advice taking a home win or draw double.

X2: As you’d expect, X2 means we’d back an Away win or draw double.

How many teams get promoted/relegated in the English Football Championship?

The top two teams are automatically promoted, and a third is promoted through a four-team playoff. The four teams that will make the play-offs are those  who finish third to sixth in the regular season standings. The bottom three teams are relegated to League One.

When does the EFL Championship 2023/24 season start?

The new campaign will kick off on August 7, alongside the League One and Two campaigns, with a 12-week break from the end of the normal 2022/23 season.

The opening fixture of the season sees newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday welcoming relegated Southampton, now under the leadership of Russell Martin.

2023/24 Championship Promotion Contenders

Last season's relegated temas from Premier League - Leicester (4/1), Leeds (7/1) and Southampton (8/1) - are the best teams on paper and serious contenders to return to the top flight. However, never have all three relegated teams secured immediate promotion back to the top tier.

Leicester City have kept some good Premier League talents and will have Enzo Maresca, part of Pep Guardiola’s title-winning coaching team at Manchester City, at the wheel.

Leeds UTD and Southampton are second and third favourites respectively, according to the top UK betting sites. The Saints hope that a change in manager will help them return to the Premier League at the first time of asking while the Whites will look to get promoted under the tutelage of Daniel Farke.

Middlesbrough at 10/1 after they reached the play-offs last season having made significant progress under promising young coach Michael Carrick.

Norwich (16/1) and Watford (18/1) are just behind Boro in the promotion betting. Kieran McKenna’s newly-promoted Ipswich side are backable at 18/1, and 5/1 to make it two promotion in a row.

West Brom (20/1), Sunderland (20/1) and Stoke City (25/1) all look interesting value away from the obvious frontrunners. They have good chance to finish among the four teams who will make the play-offs.

2023/24 Championship Relegation Candidates

Last season, Reading, Blackpool and Wigan were the three to drop out of the Championship (with the former being relegated as a direct result of their six-point deduction) while Neil Warnock worked wonders to keep Huddersfield Town afloat last season.

Most bookies, including new betting sites, have Rotherham (15/8 with QuinnBet) and Plymouth (9/4 with Betfred) as the outright favourites to be relegated at the end of the 46-gameweek long season.

Other clubs that the bookies believe are potential contenders for relegation are Gareth Ainsworth’s QPR, Cardiff City, and the Yorkshire pair of Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield.

Millwall and Coventry were definitely a surprise to bookmakers when they challenged for the play-offs in 2022/23 but their momentum may now be halted.

Other possible strugglers are Preston, Birmingham, Blackburn and Hull City.
