Manchester City vs Real Madrid Betting Preview
The first leg in Madrid ended 1-1, courtesy of goals scored by Vinicius Jr and Kevin De Bruyne. With no away goal rule, both Los Blancos and the Citizens will need to edge the other in the return match.
Manchester City have not lost a game since early February, bosting a 22-game unbeaten run. A 3-0 routine victory over Everton - courtesy of two goals and an assist from Ilkay Gundogan - put Pep Guardiola's men within touching distance of the Premier League title. Arsenal’s thumping defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion leaves the Cityzens one win away from being crowned champions.
Real Madrid defeated Getafe 1-0 thanks to Marco Asensio's 20-yard strike over the weekend, but Barcelona clinched the La Liga title few hours later by beating Espanyol on Sunday evening. Carlo Ancelotti's men lost each of their last two La Liga fixtures on the road against Girona and Real Sociedad, but clearly they were not playing at their best in the league, since the gap from Barcelona was too big. Anyway, the Blancos won the Copa del Rey ten days ago by beating Osasuna in the final.
Man City and Real Madrid also met at this stage of the competition last year. The first leg at the Etihad saw the host winning 4-3. The Cityzens also went 1-0 up at the Bernabeu but a memorable comeback saw Real Madrid scoring the deciding goal in extra-time.
Manchester City are 11/18 to win on Wednesday night with VBet, while Real Madrid are 9/2 to come away with the victory at Betfred. A draw is priced at 7/2 with SpreadEx, one of the best football betting sites around.
Man City (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Walker, Dias, Akanji; Stones, Rodri; Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Grealish; Haaland.
Nathan Ake is the only injury concern for the hosts and the Dutcham is expected to be replaced by Kyle Walker in the three man backline, with John Stones retaining his berth in midfield alongside Rodri. Up front, Erling Haaland will be supported by the in-form Ilkay Gudogan, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne, while Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez are viable alternatives.
Real Madrid (4-3-3): Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Alaba; Kroos, Camavinga, Modric; Valverde, Benzema, Vinicius.
The visitors will be boosted by the return of Eder Militao, who didn't play the first leg because of suspension. Eduardo Camavinga limped off in the closing stages of their win over Getafe at the weekend but he should recover in time to feature here. David Alaba and Karim Benzema were both rested over the weekend and look sure starters, while Rodrygo could make room to Federico Valverde in the front trio. Ferland Mendy completed 45 minutes of Saturday's game following a long-standing calf issue and will likely make the bench.
Manchester City vs Real Madrid Betting Tips
Man City have incredibly strung together a 15-match winning streak at the Etihad Stadium in all competions, scoring less than two goals just once in the process. They are unbeaten at home in Champions League since September 2018 with a W23 D2 record.
Madrid are considered slight underdogs for the mouth-watering midweek contest but they can't be underestimated having won their last two Champions League away games against English clubs in the knockout stage.
We expect a high scoring game at Eithad, with Man City likely to complete their revenge mission from 2022 and qualify for the final.
The 3-2 scoreline is our pick in the Correct Score market, while Erling Haaland is expected to add more goals to his seasonal tally.
