Liverpool vs Napoli Betting Preview
Liverpool are clearly struggling. They have already secured their qualification for the knock-out stages in Champions League but the Premier League campaign is practically compromised.
After a 2-1 home defeat against Leeds (a team that were on a long winless streak), the Reds have collapsed to 9th place in the standings, 15 points behind Premier League pace setters Arsenal. It was the second consecutive KO in the league after the memorable one suffered at Nottingham Forest (1-0).
Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, two of Liverpool's stars, are shadows of the players we have admired in past seasons while the new signings (Darwin Nunez above all) are struggling to fire all cylinders.
Napoli have already secured their qualification for the round of 16 and, probably, will do it as top the group. The 'Partenopei' have a 3 points lead over Liverpool and a much better goal difference (+16 for the Azzurri, +9 for the Reds). Therefore, for the first place it will be enough not to lose with a difference of 7 goals.
An almost impossible scenario given the brilliant football played by the Serie A outfit in recent times. Napoli are playing the best football in Europe (together with Bayern Munich) and could become the first Italian club to win all six games in the Champions League group stage.
The Azzurri have won their first five games in the competition, including the first match against Liverpool, beaten 4-1 at the Stadio Maradona in Naples last September. Since then, Luciano Spalletti's side have hammered Ajax twice (6-1 in the Netherlands and 4-2 at home) and recorded a double 3-0 against Rangers.
Furthermore, Napoli are also leading the Serie A. Spalletti's team is unbeaten after 12 domestic matches (10 wins and 2 draws) and tops the table with a 5 points gap over Atalanta and 6 over Milan. The Neapolitans boast the best attack of the league with 30 goals scored and the third best defense with 9 goals conceded.
Best Odds
Liverpool favorite to grab all three points at Anfield. However, the home win odds are drifting and, at the time of writing, the best price is 19/20 at Betfred. The draw is backable at 16/5 with Unibet while Napoli are 11/4 to win with Betfair (it was 19/5 last week).
Probable Line-Ups
LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Thiago, Henderson; Salah, Nunez, Firmino.
Jurgen Klopp will stick with his usual 4-3-3 with Darwin Nunez central forward supported by Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino. Both Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are sidelined. In midfield, the playmaker will be Thiago Alcantara with Elliott and Henderson at his side. However, Fabinho and Fabio Carvalho are viable options. In defense Robertson returns in the starting XI. The Scotsman will complete the backline together with Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
NAPOLI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Ostigard, Kim, Olivera; Ndombele, Lobotka, Zielinski; Politano, Simeone, Kvaratskhelia.
There will be some changes to Spalletti's starting XI, but the team that will play at Anfield will be very competitive. In attack, Giovanni Simeone will give Victor Osimhen a breather. The Argentine will be assisted by Matteo Politano and Kvicha Kvaratshkelia. The alternatives are Hirving Lozano and Giacomo Raspadori (not bad!). In midfield, Stanislav Lobotka will be the playmaker, flanked by Tanguy Ndombele and Piotr Zielinski, as Zambo Anguissa is not 100% fit . In defense, Leo Ostigard will be Kim Min-jae's partner, while Mathias Olivera and Giovanni Di Lorenzo will start as full-backs. Amir Rrahmani is still in the treatment room.
Liverpool vs Napoli Betting Tips
Napoli enter this match on the back of 13 consecutive victories (8 in the league and 5 in the Champions League) and has not conceded any goals in the last 3 outings. Liverpool, on the other hand, have been inconsistent si far. We believe the have escaped this group because Rangers and Ajax are shaky and not so well equipped for this competition (they conceded 34 goals in two!).
According to the best bookies in the UK, the Reds are favorites in the betting but, in our opinion, Napoli will cause them lots of problems. We would not be surprised if Napoli make 6 of 6 at Anfield.
We back the double chance "Napoli to win or draw" (whose odds has dropped below Evens). The other bet we recommend is the "Both Teams To Score".
As to the Correct Score we go for Napoli to win 3-2, while among the possible scorers we select Kvaratshkelia: the Georgian lacks only the goal at Anfield to consecrate himself on the international scene.
