28/1 Man City to win
Manchester City v Huddersfield betting preview
Man City annihilated almost every opponent at home last seasonManchester City deservedly beat Arsenal 2-0 at Emirates on the opening day of the Premier League season. They have been dominant in winning 2-0 against Chelsea in the FA Community Shield on early August. The Citizens won 16 of their previous 19 home Premier League matches and returned W17-D3-L0 when entertaining bottom-half teams. Anyway, Huddersfield claimed a 0-0 draw from this exact fixture last year.
Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out for around three months with a knee ligament lesion. As a result, Ilkay Gündogan should keep his place in midfield with David Silva still lacking match fitness. John Stones and Aymeric Laporte should get the nod over Nicolas Otamendi and Vincent Kompany in defence. In attack, Sergio Aguero is expected to lead the line, with Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva behind him. The likes of Leroy Sanè and Gabriel Jesus provide viable alternatives up front.
Huddersfield only won three of their 19 Premier League away matches last seasonHuddersfield have endured a tough start, losing 3-0 to Chelsea at home on Saturday. The Terriers hit a post Steve Mounie's header when one goal down but rarely threatened the Blues goal. David Wagner's men have struggled away from home and have won just three of their 19 away matches last season (W3, D5, L11). Plus, they only scored once in their away matches against last season's top six. As to direct encounters, Huddersfield put up a very good fight in both of last season’s meetings – they only lost to an 84th-minute winner at home. They were the only side to have stopped City from scoring at Etihad last season.
David Wagner switched from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-5-1-1 for the visit of Chelsea and is expected to return to the original system. Steve Mounie will spearhead the attack while Adama Diakhaby impressed in a 20-minute cameo last weekend and could come into contention as offensive midfielder, alongside Rajiv Van La Parra and Alex Pritchard. Aaron Mooy and Jonathan Hogg are likely to start in the middle of the park. The likes of Danny Williams, Juninho Bacuna, Isaac Mbenza and Erik Durm are all expected to miss out. Ben Hamer is favourite to play in goal as Jonas Lössl is not quite ready to play.
