Bayern Munich have enjoyed a terrific 2020 so far, winning an incredible 21 of the 22 matches they have played across three competitions since the start of the year. They notched 31 goals in 10 home fixtures since January 1. Their most recent game was the DFB-Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen on July 4, a match that the Bavarians won 4-2. As to Champions League, Hansi Flick's men secured a 3-0 win over the Blues at Stamford Bridge, a result that lift them as one of the favorites to win this year's Champions League. They conceded just one goal and kept two clean sheets in the three Champions League home games.

The Bavarians will be without French defender Benjamin Pavard, as he nurses an ankle injury. That could see Joshua Kimmich drop into right-back or Alvaro Odriozola may start. Kingsley Coman and Niklas Sule are the other two injured players, while new signing Leroy Sanè is ineligible to play. Robert Lewandowski will spearhead the attack as usual, while Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller look sure starters in the offensive midfield trio. Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho are in contention for the remaining berth.

Chelsea enter the match low on confidence after losing last weekend's FA Cup final to Arsenal (2-1). Prior to that, they clinched a top-four finish on the final day of the Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Wolves. Defense remains a concern as the Blues conceded 54 goals in the league - the most in the top half of the Premier League.  The Blues are currently unbeaten in a club-record 10 away European matches, since losing 0-3 to Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16 in 2018. As to direct encounters, Chelsea have failed to beat the Bavarians in their last 5 matches in all competitions.


Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta are both sidelined after going off injured against Arsenal, while Jorginho and Marcos Alonso are both suspended. Pedro, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Billy Gilmour are also injured while N'Golo Kantè and Willian are not 100% fit. As a result, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason mount are likely to flank Olivier Giroud or Tammy Abraham upfront. Emerson Palmieri and Reece James will start as wing backs, with Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley in the middle of the park.
