REAL MADRID v NAPOLI BETTING PREVIEW
Real Madrid beat Osasuna 3-1 away from home in La Liga at the weekend to take themselves a point clear of 2nd placed Barcelona with two games in hand. In Champions League, they finished second in their group behind Borussia Dortmund as they took 12 points from a possible 18. The Galacticos are unbeaten in 11 home games in La Liga this season, winning nine times, and they took seven points from a possible nine in Euro. Zinedine Zidane's men scored three or more goals in nine of their last 13 games.
Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to training ahead of this clash and will regularly start the match while Gareth Bale is likely to be out until March, despite returning to training this week. The Welshman should be replaced by Lucas Vazquez, with James Rodriguez and Isco providing further options. Right-back Danilo is out through injury, meaning that Marcelo and Carvajal will retain their berth in defense alongside Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane. In midfield, the starting trio is likely to be formed by Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric, with Mateo Kovacic as main alternative.
Napoli are third in Serie A, six points behind leaders Juventus but having played a game more. The Partenopei made it 18 games unbeaten with their comfortable 2-0 win over Genoa on Friday, and that followed on from an emphatic 7-1 thrashing at Bologna, to make it 11 wins from their last 13 matches. As to the Champions League, they emerged from Group B as winners despite they earned just a point in the double challenge against Besiktas.
Maurizio Sarri is expected to field the light "tridente" once again, as Dries Mertens will start as central forward with Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon on his flanks. In midfield, Piotr Zielinski and Marek Hamsik look sure to feature while Jorginho and Amadou Diawara are in contention for the remaining berth. Defensive duo Ivan Strinic and Lorenzo Tonelli are not 100% fit and will make the bench at maximum. Hence, the four man back-line will be formed by Elseid Hysaj, Faouzi Ghoulam, Kalidou Koulibaly and Raul Albiol.
