LAZIO v ROMA BETTING PREVIEW
Lazio come into this tie on the back of a 1-0 over Udinese. They are enjoying a four match unbeaten run in Serie A with 3 wins and a draw (the 1-1 home draw against AC Milan), and they are in a touching distance with the Champions League qualification spot. The Biancocelesti have won nine, drawn two and lost three matches at home so far, following a recent loss to mid-table Chievo. In the previous Coppa Italia round, Lazio had an impressive display when beating 2-1 Inter Milan away from home.
Defenders Stefan Radu, Patric and midfielder Senad Lulic are all suspended and will sit out this tie while goalkeeper Federico Marchetti is still recovering from a knee injury and will be replaced by Thomas Strakosha. Anyway, manager Simone Inzaghi can welcome back Lucas Biglia from suspension. The Argentinian playmaker will be flanked by Marco Parolo and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in midfield. The starting system will be a very offensive 4-3-3 with the likes of Ciro Immobile, Felipe Anderson and Keita Balde up front.
Roma enter this match high on confidence after an impressive 3-1 win away at S.Siro against Inter Milan last weekend. They are second in the table with an outside chance for making a late title challenge to Juventus at a 7 point gap. As to direct encounters, the Giallorossi ran out 2-0 winners in the Serie A clash back in early December and have won each of their last four competitive games against Lazio. They have a 100% league record at the Olimpico so far this season, but they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Villarreal in Europa League last Thursday. Before that loss, they had won 11 straight home matches in all competitions.
Luciano Spalletti is expected to confirm the starting XI who beat Inter Milan at the weekend. The only change could see Emerson play as left wing back in place of Juan Jesus. Up front, Edin Dzeko will be the lone striker with Radja Nainggolan and Mo Salah on his back. Kevin Strootman and Daniele De Rossi will start in the middle of the park as usual, protecting the three man backline formed by Kostas Manolas, Federico Fazio and Antonio Rudiger. Long term absentee Alessandro Florenzi is the only unavailable player in the squad.
