Derby vs Leeds betting preview

Derby ended the campaign with just one defeat in their final 12 games

Derby County finished the season in good form with four victories and two draws from their last six matches. They picked up a 3-1 victory over fellow promotion chasers West Brom at Pride Park on Sunday, nailing the 6th position in the table over Middlesbrough. At Pride Park, the Rams are unbeaten in their last seven winning five of these including the previous four fixtures. They finished on 74 points which is nine beneath their rivals here while losing both meetings with them this season - 1:4 at home and 2:0 away. Frank Lampard's men have conceded at home to all of the top eight this season.

The hosts are hoping to have Ashley Cole available for selection. Should he miss out, Scott Malone will continue at left-back. Tom Lawrence will retain his place in the forward line as he avoided a ban for diving. He will be flanked by James Wilson and Martyn Waghorn. The three man midfield will be formed by Mason Mount, Duane Homes and Bradley Johnson. The likes of Curtis Davies and Craig Forsyth are all nursing injuries, though, and Ikechi Anya has not been used all season.

Leeds have lost three of their last four matches on the road

Leeds UTD looked like strong title contenders for most of the regular season, but dropped down to third after collecting just 10 points from the last 9 matchweeks. They had a three-point lead in second with four games to go, but the Whites lost three of their last four winless matches, including a final day defeat at bottom side Ipswich. Fatigue seems to have set in as they limped over the finish line. Plus, Leeds UTD have never previously won promotion in four previous attempts via the playoffs.

With Patrick Bamford banned for the first leg, Kemar Roofe will again lead the line in attack for Leeds. Marcelo Bielsa is confident the youngster Tyler Roberts will be fit in time to feature from the off. He will join Jack Harrison, Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez in the four man behind the lone striker while Kalvin Phillips will anchor the midfield. Centre-half Pontus Jansson is doubtful while Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas are unavailable due to injury.
