Aston Villa vs Manchester City betting preview

Aston Villa have lost their last four matches against City by an aggregate margin of 17-1

Aston Villa sit 17th in the league table, just one point above the relegation zone with 11 games of the league season remaining. The Villans enter the Carabao Cup final on the back of a three match losing streak. They were beaten at Bournemouth 2-1, lost at home 2-3 against Spurs and were defeated 2-0 by Southampton at St.Mary's last weekend. The Villans reached this final courtesy of January's dramatic 2-1 triumph over Leicester City in the semi-finals, which sealed a 3-2 aggregate win. Prior to that they also knocked out Liverpool in december, but the Reds played with the Under 23 team.

Dean Smith will once again be without influential midfielder John McGinn. Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has played an intergal part in Villa's cup run this season and is expected to start in goal ahead of January arrival Pepe Reina. Up front, new signing Mbwana Samatta will spearhead the attack, with Jack Grealish as number ten. Kortney Hause, Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa will form the three man backline, Matt Targett and Frederic Guilber will start as wing backs. Anwar El Ghazi and Keinan Davis are both doubts. Danny Drinkwater is ineligible while Wesley and Tom Heaton remain long-term absentees.

Man City have already done the league double over Aston Villa this season

Manchester City have won 10 of their last 13 fixtures in all competitions and enter this clash on the back of an impressive Champions League win at Real Madrid in the 1st leg of the last 16 round. Domestically, they are second in the Premier League standings but trail league leaders Liverpool by a huge 22 points. As to direct encounters, City have won seven of their last eight matches against Aston Villa in all competitions (D1), scoring 26 goals and conceding just three across those games. The Citizens comfortably beat Villa 6-1 when the two sides met at Villa Park in mid-January. Earlier this season, they beat the Villans 3-0 at Etihad.

Aymeric Laporte is unlikely to feature after the injury-hit centre-back suffered another problem in City's 2-1 Bernabeu beating of Madrid. Leroy Sane is City's only other injury absentee. Fernandinho is expected to come back into the side and partner Nicolas Otamendi at centre-back. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho, Sergio Aguero and David Silva should be restored in the starting XI after sitting on the bench in midweek. Kyle Walker and Banjamin Mendy will start as full backs while Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri will anchor the midfield.
