Wolves have made a disappointing start to life back in the Premier League

Wolves have collected just one point from the opening two matches on their return to the Premier League, courtesy of a 2-2 draw against Everton two weeks ago, with the Toffees reduced in 10 men for more than a half. Nuno Espirito Santo's men were beaten 2-0 by Leicester City last weekend despite a 66th minute sending off of Jamie Vardy. Hence, they have yet to win despite playing a combined 75 minutes against 10 men in their first two games. Wolves were one of only two teams that Manchester City faced in the 2017-18 season without scoring, drawing 0-0 in October 2017 in a League Cup tie.

Espirito Santo is expected to play with an offensive 3-4-1-2 system. Adama Traorè and Jonny are favourites for the wing back spots while Diogo Jota should support the attacking pair formed by Leo Bonatini and Raul Jimenez. Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho will play in midfield, protecting a three man backline formed by Willy Boly, Conor Coady and Ryan Bennett. Matt Doherty is a doubt after the red card challenge from Jamie Vardy last weekend forced him off. Ivan Cavaleiro is expected to miss out for the home side once again, while Leander Dendoncker lacks match fitness and will hope to make the bench at best here.

Manchester City are already top of the Premier League table after two impressive victories in the first two matchdays - 2-0 away over Arsenal and 6-1 over Huddersfield last time out. The one negative from last weekend was the needless goal they conceded from one of Huddersfield’s few attacking plays. Sergio Aguero, who is now the Citizens' all-time top goalscorer, racked up a hat-trick against the Terriers. Prior to that, Pep Guardiola's men made a fine start to the new season by beating 2-0 Chelsea in the Community Shield. They are already averaging more than 3 goals scored per game.

Kevin De Bruyne and Claudio Bravo both face long spells on the sidelines with knee ligament damage and an Achilles rupture respectively. Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez were dropped to the bench and they could be overlooked once again if Guardiola will stick with a three man defense to start both Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero up front. Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy should be the starting wing backs, with David Silva and Bernardo Silva flanking Fernandinho in the middle of the park. Ilkay Gundogan provide a further option while the youngster Phil Foden is likely to play at some stage. Danilo and Elaquim Mangala will miss out through injury.
