Paddy Power Plate Betting Preview
The Paddy Power Plate is a hugely competitive handicap race at the Cheltenham Festival. It's a Grade 3 National Hunt chase run over two miles and five furlongs, for horses aged five years and upwards. Grade Three status means the top horses are all allowed to enter, which usually gives us a great field for the race.
This year's edition seems sure to be another tightly knit competitive handicap, with many horses arriving looking well handicapped and a maximum field size certain for the excellent prize money on offer.
Who will win the Paddy Power Plate 2021?We'll take a closer look at this year's Paddy Power Plate and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail in this race.
FARCLAS was off the track for more than 500 days after winning his first three starts over fences. He shaped with promise when fifth on his return in a handicap chase at Punchestown in November. He followed up with a a creditable third in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas and a close-up fourth in the Leopardstown Handicap Chase at the Dublin Racing Festival.
FILS D’OUDAIRIES won at Navan in December, placed second to Envoi Allen at Punchestown but he didn’t stay behind Monkfish in Grade 1 company last month. He runs off 145, with a weight of 10st 9lb and is a strong traveller.
A WAVE OF THE SEA was sixth in last season’s Triumph Hurdle. He has won two of his six starts over fences including a win in a handicap at the Dublin Racing Festival over 2m1f.
CARIBEAN BOY beat Fiddlerontheroof at Newbury in November but was no match for Dashel Drasher at Ascot in December and was beaten by Moonlighter at Sandown last month.
THE SHUNTER will land a £100,000 bonus if successful at Cheltenham thanks to his success in the bet365 Morebattle Handicap Hurdle on Kelso's biggest raceday of the year. He has also taken the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham last November.
CONFLATED is only a novice, came third behind Monkfish at the Dublin Racing Festival and has decent form this season. Prior to that, he had handed out a good spanking to Opposites Attract and The Big Getaway at Navan.

Dark horses?MIDNIGHT SHADOW was sixth in last year’s Marsh Novices’ Chase so not disgraced at all. After a disappointing seasonal reappearance, he was second behind Chatham Street Lad off a mark of 148.
UMBRIGADO recently won a Grade 3 at Newbury and travelled very well. He has a five-pound penalty but Martin Pipe has a brilliant record in this race.
Last year’s second HAPPY DIVA will be having her final run before retirement. She is now four pounds lower than she was last season and she only finished just over a length behind Simply The Betts.
