PERTEMPS FINAL HANDICAP BETTING PREVIEW
The Pertemps Final Hurdle is a handicap race and is run on the Thursday of the Cheltenham Festival after being served by several trial races throughout the National Hunt season. It's a Grade 3 handicap hurdle over nearly three miles, for horsers aged five years old and upwards. Many outsiders have claimed glory in the race in the past.
The Pertemps Final Handicap has produced several big priced winners in recent years with the average SP of around 20/1 since the year 2000, so clearly this is a bookmaker friendly handicap (where stakes are best kept to a minimum).
And now we take a closer look at this year's Pertemps Final Handicap and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.
Who will win the Pertemps Final Handicap 2025?
Gordon Elliott's THE WALLPARK is the odds-on favorite. He won a qualifier at Cheltenham in October and has since finished fourth in the Grade One Long Walk Hurdle. His new owner JP McManus has also entered him in the Stayers' Hurdle as he would carry top-weight off his mark of 152 here.
JERIKO DU REPONET was highly touted as a novice hurdler earlier in his career, but he’s struggled to live up to the hype. He is one of the most fancied in the betting after an eye-catching run in qualifying for the race at Exeter on February when he finished third.
Previously successful in a Punchestown maiden hurdle on January, WILL THE WISE qualified for Cheltenham in landing Naas’ Pertemps Network Group Qualifier Handicap Hurdle on 23rd February. He is also entered in the Albert Bartlett.
McManus could also be represented by second-favourite WIN SOME LOSE SOME, who could go well after relishing the step up to three miles on his last outing at Leopardstown. He doesn’t look badly treated and will be suited to the stiff finish.
D ART D ART qualified for the race with a second-place finish in Carlisle back in December, where he was beaten by a neck. He went from held up to leading at the last and may well have won but for edging left on the run-in. Back in third was Gwennie May Boy who has franked the form since when comfortably winning the Rendlesham. Starting off strong this season with a victory over two and a half miles in Punchestown's handicap hurdle, he showcased his credentials once again with a third-place finish in a big handicap hurdle at Navan.
FEET OF A DANCER qualified for the Final with a third-place finish at Leopardstown. She has won four of her 11 starts over hurdles in Ireland but she is yet to win beyond 2m4f.
Dark horses?
Gordon Elliott's LUCKY LYREEN was keeping on nicely when sixth of 25 behind Grand National-bound Perceval Legallois over three miles at the Dublin Racing Festival. He'd won his maiden over the trip on soft/heavy going at Punchestown last February so stamina should not be a concern.
SHANAGH BOB won the Bristol Novices' Hurdle over this course-and-distance last season. Nicky Henderson's star. He jumped terribly on his first two starts over fences and dropped back to hurdling for the qualifier at Huntingdon in January, and ran an encouraging race to finish second behind the strong-staying Super Survivor. He was well-beaten on his most recent start at Warwick, but could have top 3 ambitions here on better ground.
KARL DES TOURELLES came through trouble in-running to finish a very good second in the Punchestown qualifier behind Franciscan Rock on his reappearance over hurdles. He then was beaten into third behind Meet And Greet at Limerick over Christmas. Stepping back up in trip should certainly suit given the way he finished off his race at Punchestown.
PATTER MERCHANT finished 5th in a red-hot handicap hurdle at Leopardstown’s Dublin Racing Festival two starts ago. He also recorded a fourth in a Pertemps qualifier at Naas to book his place in this contest. He made a shuddering mistake two flights from home that day, but he stayed on eye-catchingly well to grab fourth spot. He’s been given a 3lbs rise by the British handicapper for that run.
HARBOUR LAKE has a record of 2312 from four starts over three miles and he will arrive fresh after a positive runner-up effort at Market Rasen last time out, while BUGISE SEAGULL has made the frame in both starts back in this sphere and could be another each-way contender at high odds.
Other possible long shots to follow are CATCH HIM DERRY, IDEM, GUARD THE MOON, SUPREME GIFT, ZAIN NIGHTS, HENRI THE SECOND, SUPER SURVIVOR and MAXI MAC GOLD.

Ruby Walsh's Ultima Handicap Chase Tips
Cheltenham Festival’s winning-most jockey turned TV pundit Ruby Walsh have shared his tips:
"It’s an open-looking contest. Will The Wise won the last qualifier and has his chance. I’ve never been in love with Jeriko Du Reponet. Win Some Lose Some for Mark Walsh has a great chance but I like one at a good price. KARL DE TOURELLES is only a five-year-old but I think that age group are pretty well handicapped and I’m hoping this fella falls in the same boat. He has a lot of weight but his mark of 139 might be workable."2025 PERTEMPS FINAL HANDICAP FREE BETS
