TRIUMPH HURDLE BETTING PREVIEW
The final day of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival gets underway with the grade one Triumph Hurdle. It's a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race, run over two miles and one furlong, for horses aged four. Unlike the Supreme Novices Hurdle, this race restricts entry to 4-year-old novice hurdlers, eliminating age difference from the factors that decide the race winner. This makes the race the starting platform for many young horses, and it is certainly a race to watch for the future.
The JCB Triumph Hurdle often attracts a maximum field so tactics are crucial, and prominent runners could be at an advantage by keeping out of the carnage further down the field.
And now we take a closer look at this year's JCB Triump Hurdle and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.
Who will win the Triumph Hurdle 2022?
VAUBAN was beaten on his first hurdles start in Ireland by Pied Piper. Despite the defeat it was a very eyecatching performance and Willie Mullins’ star then showed an excellent turn of foot to beat Fil Dor in the Spring Juvenile Hurdle. Since then he is the red hot favourite to win this race.
FIL DOR has only lost once since joining Gordon Elliott after finishing second on his sole French start last year. That defeat came in the Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival at the hands of Vauban on Boxing Day.
PIED PIPER also joined Gordon Elliott's yar in recent months. Since then he has beaten Vauban and then travelled over to Cheltenham and won a Grade 2 over this course and distance by 9 lenghts.
Already a Chepstow Grade 1 winner, Gary Moore's PORTICELLO looks to have a real chance of being a serious contender after romping away to win the William Hill Super Odds Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle at Haydock, by a whopping 17 lenghts.
After finishing Runner-up in a 1½m bumper on the second of 2 starts in France, IL ETAIT TEMPS ran a blinder on debut for Willie Mullins. He was third to Vauban on his debut thrown into a Grade One at Leopardstown that day and we expect him to progress.
Milton Harris' KNIGHT SALUTE made it five wins this season in the Adonis Hurdle by three and a quarter lengths. Prior to that he won Grade 2 Triumph Hurdle trial back here in November. He was last seen when landing the Grade 2 Summit Juvenile Hurdle at Doncaster and he has been given a break since.
Dark horses?
Adonis Hurdle runner-up TEDDY BLUE ran 3 ¼ lengths behind the already mentioned Knight Salute at Kempton, but that was only his second run over the sticks. He clearly has ability and is also improving with each run and could be an interesting each way shot.DOCTOR PARNASSUS is an unbeaten hurdler. Since joining Dan Skelton, he romped home by ten lengths in what was his hurdling debut at Ascot. He supplemented that victory with another runaway success at Taunton next time out.
LUNAR POWER has twice finished second to Fil Dor in Graded races this season while ICARE ALLEN, winner of a bumper on his only outing in his native France, he made a winning debut for Willie Mullins by taking a maiden hurdle at the Christmas meeting in Leopardstown. He finished fifth behind Vauban last time out in the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle.
At the moment, the most backed horses are the following:
