Mares' Chase Betting Preview
The Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase is the penultimate race on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival - it is new for 2022.
The Grade 2 steeplechase, run over 2m4f on the New Course at Prestbury Park, replaces the Centenary Novices’ Handicap Chase (Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase) on the programme.
And now we take a closer look at this year's Mares' Chase and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.
Who will win the Mares' Chase 2022?
ELIMAY has only run six times over fences up to the end of the 2020/21 season, never finishing outside of the first two. She was runner-up to Coolrevy in the 2021 renewal, beaten only by half-length. JP McManus' mare has won at Fairyhouse since then, handles the track and stays well.
Gordon Elliott’s MOUNT IDA won the 2021 Kim Muir. It was a memorable race as she was on the verge of being pulled up for the majority of the race before recording a six and a half-length victory. She was beaten by Elimay at Fairyhouse at the end of last season but reversed that result in a Fairyhouse Grade 3 on New Year’s Day.
CONCERTISTA won the 2022 Mares’ Novices’ at Cheltenham before only narrowly getting touched off by Black Tears in last year’s Mares’ Hurdle. She also rediscovered form with two consecutive victories this season at Grade 2, landing as the odds-on favourite in the Dawn Run Mares Novice Chase after previously winning at Cork.
ZAMBELLA is a five-time Listed winner but she fell in this race 12 months ago. Should Nigel Twiston-Davies raise here game here, she can be a contender.

Dark horses?
VIENNA COURT won her last two at Cheltenham, most recently at the November meeting. She impressed on New Year’s Day too, beating Simply The Betts, but she was slightly disappointing at Huntingdon when she was turned over when odds on.
Having readily claimed the Grade 3 Flyingbolt Novice Chase eight days earlier at Navan, SCARLET AND DOVE won the Charleville Cheese Irish EBF Mares Novice Chase, overcoming a blunder at the ninth fence to run out a comfortable seven-length winner. Prior to that, she fell at the second last at Thurles in January. She could mount a serious challenge for a top 3 finish.
PINK LEGEND and MAID O'MALLEY look well beaten in this company.
