Manchester City v Tottenham Betting Preview
Just over six weeks after suffering a surprise early exit at the FIFA Club World Cup to Al-Hilal, Manchester City returned to domestic football with an impressive performance. The Cityzens recorded a 4-0 win away at Wolves, as Erling Haaland scored a brace, while Tijani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki celebrated their debut with a goal apiece.
Tottenham also opened their Premier League campaign with a win, beating Burnley 3-0 at home courtesy of a brace scored by a rejuvenated Richarlison and a goal from Brennan Johnson. Prior to that, Thomas Frank's reign started with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. The Spurs were 2-0 in that game but conceded two late goals.
Surprisingly, Manchester City have won just four of their last 12 Premier League games against Tottenham. The Lilywhites have scored two goals at least in each of the most recent four games. Last season's game between these two teams at the Etihad saw Pep Guardiola's men overrun by Spurs in a 4-0 defeat.

Rodri is edging closer to a return, but it appears unlikely that Pep Guardiola will risk the Spanish midfielder just yet. Goalkeeper Ederson is linked with a move to Galatasaray, meaning that James Trafford will keep his place in goal. Up front, Erling Haaland will lead the line as usual while Oscar Bobb and Rayan Cherki are in contention for a starting berth behind the Norwegian striker. Phil Foden will be on the banch at maximum. At the back, Manuel Akanji may again be left out amid speculation over his future while Josko Gvardiol is still out through injury.
Tottenham (3-5-2): Vicario; Danso, Romero, Van De Ven; Spence, Palhinha, Bentancur, Sarr, Porro; Kudus, Richarlison
Dejan Kulusevski is still sidelined with the serious knee injury he sustained in May. Radu Dragusin, James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, Koto Takai and Destiny Udogie are the other missing players. Few changes are expected for Thomas Frank, with Mohammed Kusus and Richarlison retaining their berth in attack as Dominic Solanke is not 100% fit. Pedro Porro and Ded Spence will start as wing backs, while Pape Sarr will join Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha in the middle of the park. The three-man backline will remain unchanged with Micky Van De Ven, Christian Romero and Kevin Danso all featuring from the off.

Tottenham have become something of a bogey team for Man City in recent seasons and, in terms of physical brilliance, they will have a slight advantage over the Cityzens. Pep Guardiola's men started to prepare the new season two weeks after the Lilywhites, having played the FIFA Club World Cup until early July.
Anyway, the Cityzens have strengthened this summer and look determined to make amends for last season’s lacklustre efforts. As a result we back Manchester City to win the match.
The last four Premier League meetings between Manchester City and Tottenham produced 21 goals, so we wouldn't be surprised to see a high-scoring game at Etihad. Hence, we recommend a 3-1 City win as correct score.
