Liverpool v Bournemouth Betting Preview
Liverpool collected their 20th top-flight crown last term, finishing first with 84 points - 10 points clear of second-placed Arsenal. The Merseysiders have spent over £300 million to strengthen their squad. The summer recruitment drive has seen the arrivals of Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike with Italian teenager Giovanni Leoni expected to be acquired in a £26m deal. Despite that, the Reds were defeated on penalties by Crystal Palace in the Community Shield last week after a 2-2 draw in normal time. As to departures, Tren Alexander Arnold, Darwin Nunez, Caoimhin Kelleher and Luis Diaz are the notable players that have left the club this summer.
Bournemouth enjoyed a remarkable campaign of their own, finishing last season's Premier League in ninth position with 56 points. The Cherries have bolstered with Djordje Petrovic, Bafode Diakitè and Adrien Truffert. Anyway, they have retained only one of their starting four defenders. Ilya Zabarny, Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen have moved to PSG, Liverpool and Real Madrid respectively, while goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has returned from loan. A six-match pre-season saw Andoni Iraola's men beat the likes of Everton, Bristol City and Hibernian while suffering defeats to Manchester United and West Ham, with a goalless draw against Real Sociedad in their most recent outing.
In terms of direct encounters, Liverpool have won their last five games against Bournemouth, scoring 14 and conceding two.
Best Odds
Liverpool are heavy favorites to get all three points, with the top betting sites offer 1/3 (1.33) for the home win. A Bournemouth win is backable at 17/2 (or 9.00 with non-UK bookmakers) while the draw is available at 11/2 (6.50).
Team News & Probable Line-Ups
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike
Ryan Gravenberch is suspended for the opener after a red card in the final game of last season, while Alexis Mac Allister may be fit enough to start. Other possible absentees are Joe Gomez (Achilles) and Conor Bradley, who is nursing a muscular problem. The acquisition of Florian Wirtz has seen Dominik Szoboszlai move into a deeper role in the engine room. Up front, Hugo Ekitikè should lead the line, with Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo starting out wide. No changes are expectedi n the back four, compared to the backline that started against Crystal Palace last time out.
Bournemouth (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Araujo, Senesi, Hill, Truffert; Adams, Scott; Semenyo, Tavernier, Brook; Evanilson.
Lewis Cook is both injured and suspended for Friday’s trip to Liverpool while Justin Kluivert has been ruled out through injury and Dango Ouattara is not expected to feature with the Cherries agreeing a fee with Brentford for the forward. Ryan Christie is back in training but the Liverpool match will come too soon for the midfielder, meaning that Tyler Adam and Alex Scott will anchor the midfield. Marcus Tavernier is likely to feature from the off in the offensive midfield trio behind the lone striker Evanilson, alongside Antoine Semenyo and David Brooks.
Our Liverpool v Bournemouth Predictions
The opening game of the season certainly has goal-fest potential. The Reds have heavily invested in attackers like Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, plus offensive full backs such as Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, but they have been shaky in defense in all pre-season games.
The Cherries have lost three of their starting back four, as well as their starting goalkeeper. Hence, Andoni Iraola’s new-look team may take some time to gel and may be vulnerable at the back.
As a result we go for Liverpool to win 3-1.
While fans expecting new signings to shine, we believe that Cody Gakpo could be the key player of the game, and we back the Dutchman to have 1+ shot on target.
