Liverpool vs Manchester City Betting Preview
Liverpool made a dreadful start to their pre-season tour, losing 4-0 to arch rivals Manchester United in Thailand. Anyway, Jurgen Klopp's men bounced back three days later with a 2-0 success over Crystal Palace in Singapore. Coming back in Europe, the Merseysiders hammered 5-0 RB Leipzig and then suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Red Bull Salzburg, with Klopp fielding a much changed lineup.
Manchester City are fresh of a narrow 1-0 victory against Bayern in a storm-interrupted friendly at the weekend, a game that was delayed by 15 minutes before being shortened by a further 10 due to bad weather conditions in Green Bay (USA). Prior to that, Pep Guardiola's men beat Club America 2-1 courtesy of a brace scored by Kevin De Bruyne.
Last season’s Premier League encounters between both ended in 2-2 draws. The teams also met in the FA Cup semi-final when the Merseysiders won 3-2 a nervy contest.
Best Odds
Manchester City have been made the slight favourites (6/4 with BetVictor), with Liverpool deemed to be the 19/10 underdogs with Bet365 for this year's Community Shield. The Draw is backable at 53/20 with Parimatch.
Probable Line-Ups
Liverpool (4-3-3): Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Firmino, Diaz
Jurgen Klopp understandably fielded a second-string XI against Red Bull Salzburg and should welcome Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson back to the rearguard here.
Darwin Nunez has yet to start any of the pre-season friendlies, but scored four goals against RB Leipzig and is in contention with Roberto Firmino to feature from the off. Luis Diaz and Mo Salah will complete the front trio as Diogo Jota is out through injury. Adrian is expected to start between the posts as the Reds are sweating over the fitness of number one goalkeeper Alisson Becker. In midfield, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara are all refreshed and ready to go.Manchester City (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Dias, Stones, Cancelo; Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish
John Stones, Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan were all unable to travel to the USA for pre-season but will be back at Guardiola's disposal here. New signing Erling Braut Haaland will be joined in the final third by Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish. The other new arrival Kalvin Phillips is expected to be named among the substitutes, with the likes of Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri forming the midfield trio. Nathan Akè should replace Ruben Dias, who is not 100% fit, at the back while Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo are expected to occupy the full-back areas.
Our Liverpool vs Manchester City Predictions
There is little to chose in the betting between these two teams, particularly on neutral ground. Man City and Liverpool are the favorite teams in our Premier League outright tips guide, and we expect an entertaining show despite it will be the first official match for both clubs. The last seven meetings between these heavyweights have brought 28 goals, so there should be plenty of interest in backing a high scoring game. A 2-2 draw is our recommended bet. Among the possible goalscorers, we pick Darwin Nunez.
