Newcastle vs Chelsea betting preview

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last five matches at home against the Blues

Newcastle have taken just one point from their first two games so far. After a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham, the Magpies picked up their first point of the season away at Cardiff last Saturday, with Kenedy passing up the opportunity to wrap up all three points when he missed from the penalty spot in injury time. Rafa Benitez's men thrashed The Blues 3-0 in May. They have won lost just one of their last seven home matches against Chelsea, winning four and drawing two.

Isaac Hayden is suspended for the hosts after his red card against Cardiff last weekend. Loanee Kenedy ineligible to face his parent club and Christian Atsu could deputise on the right flank. Javier Manquillo was substituted at half-time last time out and needs to be assessed. Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez offer alternatives to Ciaran Clark in central defence, while Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto are threatening Joselu's starting berth upfront.

Chelsea have started the season strongly enough under their new manager Maurizio Sarri

Chelsea enter this match on the back of last weekend's 3-2 victory over Arsenal and a 3-0 success over Huddersfield on opening day. Two wins from two with six goals scored suggests things are already beginning to click for Maurizio Sarri's men after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the Community Shield. The Italian manager is unbeaten in two previous meetings with Benitez, downing Napoli 4-2 with minnows Empoli in one of the matches.

Eden Hazard and Mateo Kovacic will be pushing for starts after featuring as substitutes last time out. They could replace Willian and Ross Barkley respectively. Since Cesc Fabregas is out through injury, Jorginho and N'Golo Kantè are expected to retain their starting berth in midfield, as well as Pedro and Alvaro Morata up front. No changes are expected in defense, with David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta forming the four man backline.
