Liverpool have lost just one of their last 24 home games against Tottenham

Liverpool go into the weekend two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, but the Citizens have one game in hand. The Reds showed title jitters in their most recent outing, a 2-1 win at Fulham, as they required a late James Milner penalty to overcome the division's second-worst side. However, Liverpool have dropped points just twice at Anfield this season and are unbeaten in 36 home league fixtures. In Champions League, Jurgen Klopp's men knocked out Bayern Munic with a 3-1 win at the Allianz Arena, to set up a quarter final against FC Porto. Earlier this season, the Reds recorded a 2-1 victory away at Wembley in the first direct encounter of the season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri returned to training for the first time on Thursday and the former is expected to feature from te off. Naby Keita is a major doubt, meaning that Fabinho is likely to join Georgino Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson in the middle of the park. The likes of Mo Salh, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Manè will start up front, with Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge the main alternatives. Dejan Lovren is a fit-again option at centre-half but Klopp may be loathed to break up the settled partnership between Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk after nine league matches together. Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are back in full training, but are currently not match-fit.

Tottenham have picked up just one point from the last available 12 to drop from being on the fringe of the title race into a battle for a top-four berth. They hold a one-point advantage on fifth-placed Arsenal and are three points better off than Man United, while Chelsea are four points behind. The negative run started at Burnley (2-1). A defeat at Chelsea (2-0) and a home draw against Arsenal (1-1) followed. Then, Spurs beat Borussia Dortmund in Germany (0-1) in Champions League - setting up a quarter-final with Man City - and suffered a 2-1 defeat at Southampton before the international break. As a result, they have lost their last three away league games. As to direct encounters, Mauricio Pochettino's men have won just one of their latest 15 matches against Liverpool at home or away

Harry Winks and Eric Dier will miss the trip to Anfield on Sunday, leaving Mauricio Pochettino short of defensive-minded alternatives in midfield. As consequence, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko are likely to partner Christian Eriksen in the middle of the park, while Dele Alli should play as number ten behind Son Heung Min and Harry Kane. Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Fernando Llorente are also options in the attacking positions. The visitors will also make the trip to Anfield without Serge Aurier, who was injured on international duty last week, but Kieran Trippier is back available and should start. Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose are expected to complete the backline.
