CANELO vs GGG 2 BETTING PREVIEW

The rematch was scheduled for Saturday May 5, 2018 before Canelo failed two drugs tests (clenbuterol). The Mexican was suspended for six months but claimed the discoveries were the result of meat contamination. Although he did receiving the backing of the WBA and WBC, that did not stop the Nevada State Athletic Commission from handing him a six-month ban.

What Happened in the first GGG vs Canelo fight

The first encounter ended in highly debatable circumstances as the result was heavily disputed. One judge scored the bout comprehensively in favour of Alvarez 118 - 110, whilst the remaining two judges scored the fight 115 - 113 to Gennady Golovkin and 114 - 114 a draw.

Some felt Gennady Golovkin won the initial bout while others believe Saul Alvarez showed more class on the night to take the victory.

Most pundits had Golovkin in front on their scorecards in 1st match

Middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) remains one of the biggest punchers in professional boxing history with an earth-shattering 87% KO average. He brutalized Vanes Martirosyan inside two rounds on that May date. Prior to that, GGG was able to take out Kell Brook inside five rounds in September 2016 and beat Daniel Jacobs on points, becoming the first man to go the full 12 rounds with the WBA, WBC and IBO middleweight champion.

Golovkin is again the odds on favourite. His power hasn’t diminished, which was shown in his second round knock-out. The three-inch reach advantage and a one-inch benefit in height for GGG. He is not quick, but his footwork cuts the ring off well. His best work comes from his jab and left hook, which is particularly dangerous to the body. We don't expect him to make a slow start as in the first encounter.

Canelo hopes to mark Mexican independence day with a 50th career win

Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) has not fought since then. He has only lost once, in 52 professional fights - to Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2013 - and has won 34 fights by knockout and 15 by judge’s decision. Between the defeat at the hands of Mayweather and the draw against GGG, has won seven straight winning the WBO Light Middleweight and WBC Middleweight titles with wins over Erislandy Lara, Amir Khan and Miguel Cotto.

Canelo is undoubtedly a more talented fighter than Golovkin in terms of skill-set. The Mexican seems to have the most methods at his disposal for winning the fight based on his better speed, more precise footwork and excellent countering ability. He tends to put himself against the ropes which is dangerous against Golovkin. Canelo could have learnt that GGG has a chin made of steel and will be less likely to hunt for a knockout.
