England v Bulgaria betting preview
England have never lost in 10 previous meetings with BulgariaEngland return to action for the first time since their third-place finish in the Nations League. Gareth Southgate’s men sit at the top of the group thanks to a mighty +9 goal difference having demolished Czech Republic and Montenegro 5-0 and 5-1 respectively. The Three Lions are ahead of Czech Republic and Kosovo, despite having played a game less than both teams. As to direct encounters, these two nations have met on 10 previous occasions and England have an unbeaten record with six wins and four draws. The Three Lions have conceded just to goals to Bulgaria in those 10 meetings and scored seven goals without reply in their last two meetings with this opposition.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been denied his possible debut by injury, while fellow right-back Kyle Walker was a notable omission. As a result, Trent-ALexander Arnold and Kieran Trippier are in contention for the right-back berth. Harry Maguire and Joe Gomez are likely to start at the heart of the defense. Raheem Sterling, who registered a hat-trick against the Czechs and added another goal when facing Montenegro in the previous qualifiers, will lead the line alongside Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho. Marcus Rashford provides a viable alternative. In midfield, Jordan Henderson looks the only sure starter, while Harry WInks, Declan Rice, Mason Mount and James Maddison competing for the remaining two jerseys. Tyrone Mings will hope to make his senior England debut but has more chance of starting in next week's qualifier against Kosovo.
Bulgaria have failed to win any of their last seven matches in all competitionsBulgaria began their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign with 1-1 draws against Montenegro and Kosovo. Their hopes were severely dented by back-to-back defeats against the Czech Republic and Kosovo in June, meaning they enter this clash on the back of a 7 games winless treak. Anyway, they have shown good things in attack. Bulgaria have actually managed to score in 10 of their last 11 matches (including against Portugal, France and Netherlands), and away from home they have netted in 11 of their last 15.
Bulgaria's main dangerman will be captain Ivelin Popov, while Bozhidar Kraev will start as number ten behind the lone striker. Kiril Despodov and Nikolay Dimitrov will start out wide with Georgi Milanov and Simeon Slavchev anchoring the midfield. Todor Nedelev, Georgi Kostadinov and Bozhidar Chorbadzhiyski were regulars for Bulgaria during the UEFA Nations League but none are available for the away side for this international break. A number of older players, including defender Georgi Pashov, midfielders Vasil Panayotov and Wanderson and striker Daniel Mladenov.
