TRIUMPH HURDLE BETTING PREVIEWThe final day of the 2020 Cheltenham Festival gets underway with the grade one Triumph Hurdle. It's a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race, run over two miles and one furlong, for horses aged four. Unlike the Supreme Novices Hurdle, this race restricts entry to 4-year-old novice hurdlers, eliminating age difference from the factors that decide the race winner. This makes the race the starting platform for many young horses, and it is certainly a race to watch for the future.
The JCB Triumph Hurdle often attracts a maximum field so tactics are crucial, and prominent runners could be at an advantage by keeping out of the carnage further down the field.
And now we'll take a closer look at this year's JCB Triumph Hurdle and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.
SOLO was defeated by Stratagem on his first outing but got off the mark with a fantastic performance on his final start in France, winning by 15 leghts. He is the red hot favorite here following his sparkling British debut in the Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton.
GOSHEN has won his last six races on the bounce and is unbeaten in three starts over hurdles. Having improved rapidly since pitched into handicap company on the level in June, he looked something out of the ordinary when recording a 34-length victory at Sandown. He is yet to come under any pressure from his jockey.
ALLMANKIND has won on all of his starts over obstacles to date, notably at Cheltenham’s November Meeting when he beat Botox Has. Later on Dan Skelton's charge produced an even more impressive display at Chepstow to win the Grade One Summit Juvenile.
ASPIRE TOWER recorded victories in both of his opening two starts over hurdles by a combined distance of 32 lengths. His run at the Dublin Racing Festival saw him start at odds-on before he fell at the final flight and has not run since.
SIR PSYCHO has progressed really well from a slow start. At Exeter on New Year's Day, he won an all-aged novices' hurdle by 36 lengths and to make sure that was not a fluke we went off to Haydock for the Victor Ludorum.
A WAVE OF THE SEA won a pair of big field three-year-old hurdles but was beaten a long way on his last two starts when upped to graded company.
Dark horses?NAVAJO PASS managed to finish in the top 3 in four out of five races on the flat. Then he made short work of his rivals to win by 20 lengths on his hurdling debut at Bangor. He was narrowly beaten by Tavus at Newcastle back in November and recorded a three-lenght victory at Doncaster just before Christmas.
BURNING VICTORY made a winning debut over jumps in the Norman Colfer Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse. There is no doubt that this contest will be a big step up in class but he clearly has the potential to unlock the Triumph Hurdle.
HOOK UP made a winning debut Fairyhouse and whilst her jumping left plenty of room for improvement, she quickened clear very impressively on what must have been sticky ground. She would relish the test that Cheltenham will pose and has claims as well if Willie Mullins were to throw a four-year-old into the contest – something he has never done before.
CERBERUS won his first two starts over hurdles and then was a creditable runner up at Chepstow behind Allmankind in the Finale Hurdle.
