AB NOVICES HURDLE BETTING PREVIEW
One of three Grade 1 contests on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival is the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle. It's a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race, run over a distance of about three miles, for horses aged four years and upwards. This makes the race the starting platform for many young horses, who go on to have great racing careers at a high level.
Despite being one of the newest races at the festival this event has already provided us with high class winners, thrilling finishes and more. The AB Novices' Hurdle is where we will see future Gold Cup and future Stayers Hurdle horses.
And now we take a closer look at this year's Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail in this race.
Who will win the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle 2022?
GINTO has been bought for €470,000 following an impressive debut win in an Irish point-to-point. He has only lost once so far - on his bumper debut at Fairyhouse - and impressively won by 11 lengths a Grade 2 at Navan in December. He was last seen when scoring in the Grade 1 Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle by 4¼ lengths.
HILLCREST unseated Richard Patrick here at Cheltenham back in January. He was upped in trip to contest a Grade 2 at Haydock, recording an impressive 8 lenghts victory.
Having won his bumper over 2m3f, BARDENSTOWN LAD is two from three over hurdles, with facile victories at Wexford and Cartmel. His sole defeat came when he was beaten into third behind Tullybeg and Edinson Kent at Navan last time out.
MINELLA COCOONER won a 2m 4f maiden at Navan after being beaten on his first start at Cork, so he obviously improved for that run.
Archie Watson’s STAG HORN is two-from-two over hurdles since transitioning from the flat, including a tough race such as the Leamington Novices’ Hurdle at Warwick last time out.
THE NICE GUY, trained by Willie Mullins, is unbeaten in his three career starts to date and was an impressive eight-length winner on his hurdling debut at Naas in January.

ERIC BLOODAXE was no match for Ginto when the pair met in a Navan Grade 2 event on early December. Anyway, he looked much improved when improved performance on the numbers when dominating the Lyons Of Limerick Jaguar Land Rover Novice Hurdle.GOOD TIME JONNY is gunning for a hat-trick after a couple of victories at Leopardstown in a novice handicap hurdle in December and then a valuable Grade B handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival in February.
BALLYGRIFFINCOTTAGE was thrown straight into Grade Two company on his first start for Dan Skelton and ran a cracker to finish a close third behind Blazing Khal and Gelino Bello here at Cheltenham during the International Meeting. He then won a 3m novices' hurdle at Lingfield, surviving a couple of jumping scares.
Noel Meade's IDAS BOY is a former point-to-point winner, who ran well in defeat twice in novice hurdle last season. He was narrowly beaten last time out by Gerri Colombe, who had sat prominently in the AB Novices' Hurdle betting before being scratched few days ago
FALCON EIGHT landed the Chester Cup on the flat last season and Dermot Weld’s stayer won at his second outing over hurdles at Thurles earlier this month.
GREEN BOOK was an impressive winner of the Heroes Handicap on his most recent outing at Sandown while SHANTREUSSE ran out an easy winner of a Grade Three at Clonmel.
