TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 8 BETTING PREVIEW 

With three classified climbs on the day’s route, Stage 8 offers something for both the opportunists and the general classification favourites.

The summit of the Category 1 Montée de la Combe de Laisia Les Molunes comes only 12km from the finish line at Station des Rousses, and the roads in between the summit and the finish are rolling. The climb is 11.7 kilometres, with an average gradient of 6.4 per cent, however like the other climbs is has much steeper ramps.

It’s a good day for a breakaway to go the distance filled with riders who have already lost time to go on the attack early, both for a chance to win the stage and to collect points in the Tour’s King of the Mountains.

Stephen Cummings has been installed as odds-on favourite as the route looks very suited to him. His form is good but he could the most controlled rider by other contenders. The same could be sai for Daniel Martin and the other GC contenders (Chris Froome, Nairo Quintana, Romain Bardet, Alberto Contador, Fabio Aru and Richie Porte). Plus, Chris Froome has already said he is not concerned about losing the yellow jersey to any rider but a rival so look for the fight to get into the breakaway from riders far down on the classification.




Thibaut Pinot has lost ground in the first week of race and is a rider to watch. Alexis Vuillermoz, Pierre Rolland and Warren Barguil are the main French hopes as Tony Gallopin and Sylvain Chavanel look both out of form.

Other possible contenders are Gianluca Brambilla and Diego Ulissi. The former looks like he's been losing time on purpose for a couple of days, the latter is a strong finisher in stages with a brutal climb such this. Tim Wellens, Greg Van Avermaet, Simon Geschke and Thomas Voeckler are other likely riders to go in the breakaway.

Emanuel Buchmann is another perfect candidate for such an attack. Other dark horses we can't rule out are Robert Gesink, Simon Yates, Jan Bakelandts, Darwin Atapuma and Jarlinson Pantano.

Furthermore, the finale look too hard for other riders such as Dario Cataldo, Serge Pauwels, Fabio Felline and Daryl Impey.
