TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 6 BETTING PREVIEW

Stage 6, in the heart of France’s Vosges region, is relatively short at 160.5K. But it features seven categorized climbs, including a summit finish on La Planche des Belles Filles.

The race gradually builds up to its zenit with, in order of appearance, Le Markstein, Grand Ballon, Col du Hundsruck, Ballon d’Alsace, Col des Croix and Col des Chevrères.

The final climb is just 7 km long but steep, with multiple sustained sections of 9.5 percent and ramping up to a leg-breaking 24 percent gradient at the summit.

The winner will likely be a rider with GC aspirations. Anyway, as this is the first climbing showdown it's tricky to make predictions on who has the legs.

Nobody knows whether Geraint Thomas has recovered properly from his crash in the same race, and Jacob Fuglsang's knee is worrying as well. Furthermore, the Dane has struggled on La Planche before.

Hence, Egan Bernal is the bookies' #1 favourite, with the likes of Romain Bardet, Nairo Quintana and Richie Porte behind him.

Thibaut Pinot is hotly tipped especially because he will be on very familiar roads, while pure climbers such as Mikel Landa and Michael Woods should not be overlooked.

Dan Martin was second here from the bunch kick behind Fabio Aru last time while other veterans such as Alejandro Valverde and Vincenzo Nibali could be far from their best form. The Italian said that this will be the stage where he will gauge his ability to go for GC.

Julian Alaphilippe will try to defend his yellow jersey by anticipate the GC contenders as he may struggle to keep up with mountain specialists like Bernal should they go full-gas. Current KoM leader Tim Wellens col be on the move for the third day in a row.

This stage will also attract opportunists from teams targeting stage wins or the KoM competition, like Jesus Herrada, Thomas De Gendt, Luis Leon Sanchez, Giulio Ciccone, Warren Barguil and Liliane Calmejane.
