TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 15 BETTING PREVIEW

This stage is very hard to predict. Rolling roads all day, plus two first-category climbs almost bookending the route. A day for puncheurs? Or a GC contenders carnage? There may just be two battles, one for the stage win and one between those fighting for yellow, if the GC teams allow it to go that way.

The Col de Peyra Taillade, which makes its debut at the Tour, comes with 31km remaining and should be the deciding climb of the stage. On double-digit gradients and a narrow road, it could only take a moment of inattentiveness to find riders chasing on the mostly downhill run to the finish line. Prior to it, the riders will find the Côte de Saint-Vidal (1.9 kilometres at 6.8%.) and a small uphill section in Polignac.

Steve Cummings, who was expected to be in the mix on Saturday, decided to preserve his energies and will be fully focused on this stage. Despite clearly being in great form, things have not gone his way in this year's Tour and his odds look a bit short.

Warren Barguil is another rider in impressive form and should be in the breakaway once again, while his fellow countryman Romain Bardet will look to gain ground courtesy of his descender skills as well as Daniel Martin.

Chris Froome, who regained the Yellow Jersey from Fabio Aru, seems to have his swagger back and will certainly be ready to pounce if he senses any weakness from any of the men behind him.

Mikel Landa is the other Team Sky rider who could profit from the chaos that the Col de Peyra Taillade will generate. The likes of Romain Bardet, Fabio Aru and Rigoberto Uran, of course, will be forced to mark attacks from him.

Michael Matthews, Greg Van Avermaet and Edvald Boasson Hagen, the top-3 riders from Stage 14, are among the favourites for Sunday's stage as well.

Belgians like Quick-Step’s Philippe Gilbert and Lotto Soudal’s Tim Wellens might like their chances on this stage as well.

Lilian Calmejane is one of the riders expected to be in the breakaway, and he could manage to stay away until the final stages. Tony Gallopin is also expected to show something good sooner or later.

Jarlinson Pantano been glued to Alberto Contador as his loyal lieutenant this year, and so has not been seen much so far. Anyway, he could be free to attack in this stage.

Dark horses?

Alexis Vuillermoz, Tiesj Benoot, Diego Ulissi, Greg Van Avermaet, Serge Pauwels and Oliver Naesen are the most fancied riders among those with high odds.
