Totepool guide: ToteScoop6, ToteWin, TotePlace, ToteJackpot, ToteTrifecta, ToteExacta, ToteQuadpot
- Written by David Bet
Tote Betting is one of the most popular forms of betting in the UK. This is where winners are given a percentage of the overall pot rather than winnings being worked out according to their odds. Find here a complete guide for online tote betting options: Totewin, Totepool, Toteswinger, Toteexacta, Totetrifecta, Toteplacepot, Totequadpot, Totejackpot and Totescoop6.
Totepool works much like a lottery. All of the money staked goes into a pool which is then shared out amongst the winners. So the payout (or dividend) depends on how many people pick the winner.
All totepool dividends are declared to a £1 stake except for the Scoop6 which is declared to a £2 stake.
HOW TO PLAY TOTE WIN
totewin
Pick the winner of the race!
Totewin is a very simple and popular totepool bet. All you need to do is to pick the winner of the race. It is available on every race and is a great alternative to taking a price or betting at SP.
Totewin often pays fantastic returns, particularly for bigger priced horses.
HOW TO PLAY TOTE PLACE
toteplace
Pick a horse to be placed!
Toteplace is another popular totepool bet and is often combined with a totewin bet to form a toteeachway bet. It is available on all races with five or more runners.
For your toteplace or toteeachway bet to pay a return, your selection will need to be ‘placed’.
What does placed mean? Well, if there are five, six or seven runners in the race,
selections must finish in the first two to get a return. If there are eight runners or more, selections must finish in the first three for a payout. Handicap races with 16 or more runners may pay four places.
Remember to always check the totepool place terms displayed on the website before you place your toteplace or toteeachway bet.
HOW TO PLAY TOTE SWINGER
toteswinger
Pick 2 horses to finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any order!
The toteswinger is a totepool bet available on races with six or more runners. You need to select two horses to finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any order.
The toteswinger is one bet that gives you three chances to win. Your selections can finish 1st & 2nd, 1st & 3rd or 2nd & 3rd.
There are two ways to bet toteswinger at totesport.com:
Simple Swinger – pick two horses to finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any order. Alternatively pick more than two horses to increase your chance of winning. Remember, the more horses you pick, the more the bet will cost.
Banker Swinger – pick one horse as your banker (to finish in the first three) and add as many other horses as you like to fill one of the other two places. The more horses you pick, the more the bet will cost.
HOW TO PLAY TOTE EXACTA
toteexacta
Pick the 1st and 2nd in the correct order!
The toteexacta is the totepool equivalent of the Computer Straight Forecast (CSF) and requires you to pick the 1st and 2nd horse in the correct order.
It is available on all races with three or more runners and is a great bet when there is a short-priced favourite or you can’t decide between two horses.
There are three ways to bet toteexacta at totesport.com:
Straight Exacta – select the horse you want to finish 1st and the horse you want to finish 2nd. They must finish in the correct order to get a return.
Banker Exacta – select the horse you want to finish 1st and pick as many horses as you want to finish second by selecting the ‘Any’ box alongside your selections. Remember, the more horses you pick, the more the bet will cost.
Combination Exacta – pick two horses to finish 1st and 2nd in any order (this is sometimes called a Reverse Exacta) by selecting the ‘Any’ box alongside your two selections. Alternatively, pick more than two horses to give you a better chance of winning. Remember that the more horses you pick, the more the bet will cost.
HOW TO PLAY TOTE TRIFECTA
totetrifecta
Pick the 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the correct order!
The totetrifecta is the totepool equivalent of the SP Tricast and is available on selected races each day as nominated by totepool. To win the bet, you must select three horses to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the correct order.
The totetrifecta is difficult but it gives you the chance to win big money for a small stake on a single race.
There are three ways to bet totetrifecta at totesport.com:
Straight Trifecta – select the horse you want to finish 1st, the horse you want to finish 2nd, and the horse you want to finish 3rd. They must finish in the correct order
to get a return.
Banker Trifecta – select the horse you want to finish 1st and pick as many horses as you want to finish 2nd and 3rd by selecting the ‘Any’ box alongside your selections. Remember, the more horses you pick the more the bet will cost.
Combination Trifecta – pick three horses to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd in any order by selecting the ‘Any’ box alongside your three selections. Alternatively, pick more than three horses to give you a better chance of winning. Remember that the more horses you pick, the more the bet will cost.
HOW TO PLAY TOTE PLACE POT
toteplacepot
Pick a placed horse in the first 6 races!
The toteplacepot is a totepool bet on the first six races at a race meeting. It is available on every meeting, every day and is one of racing’s favourite and most popular bets.
To win the toteplacepot you need to pick a placed horse in the first six races.
Standard toteplace rules apply (see toteplace section for explanation) and if there is no toteplace pool operating due to a lack of runners, you will need to pick the winner of the race.
Perm your selections! You can pick as many horses in each race as you wish but remember that the more horses you pick, the more your bet will cost.
What happens if my horse is a non-runner? If one or more of your selections are non-runners, they will be replaced with the SP favourite. If there are joint or cofavourites, they will be replaced with the joint or co-favourite with the lowest racecard number.
Because the toteplacepot is such a popular bet, pool sizes can be huge. At big meetings such as the Cheltenham Festival, daily Placepot pools can climb towards £1 million!
HOW TO PLAY TOTE QUAD POT
totequadpot
Pick a placed horse in races 3-6
The totequadpot is a totepool bet on races 3-6 at a race meeting. It is available at every meeting, every day and is a great bet if your toteplacepot has gone down early.
To win the totequadpot you need to pick a placed horse in races 3-6.
If there are joint or cofavourites,
they will be replaced with the joint or co-favourite with the lowest racecard number.
HOW TO PLAY TOTE JACKPOT
totejackpot
Pick the winner of the first 6 races!
The totejackpot is a totepool bet on the first six races at the day’s nominated Jackpot meeting. There is only one way to win with the totejackpot – you need to pick the winner of all six races.
As with most multi-race totepool bets, rollovers often occur meaning that bigger and bigger prizes can be played for. Check totesport.com for the latest pool sizes.
HOW TO PLAY TOTE SCOOP6
totescoop6
Pick the winner of all 6 races!
The totescoop6 is a totepool bet which runs each Saturday on six selected races, usually ones that are being shown live on Channel 4. The aim is to pick the winner of all six races.
The totescoop6 pool is split into three separate funds – the win fund, the bonus fund and the place fund.
To win your share of the win fund, you’ll need to pick the winner of all six totescoop6 races. If all six of your horses are placed (see toteplace section for explanation), you’ll win your share of the place fund.
All win fund winners can register to play for the bonus fund the following week. To win a share of the bonus fund, you’ll need to pick the winner of the nominated bonus race as selected by totepool.
Note that the minimum stake for a totescoop6 bet is £2 and, as with most multirace totepool bets, rollovers often occur meaning that bigger and bigger prizes can be played for. Check totesport.com for the latest rollovers!
