Ruby Walsh’s Horse Racing Tips (Sunday 19th January 2025)
Ruby Walsh announced his retirement from horse racing, a glorious career with well over 2000 wins, following a victory in the Punchestown Gold Cup, the feature event on day two of the Punchestown Festival. The Kildare man is one of the most experienced personality in this sport and he is back with his much appreciated horse racing tips.1:30 Thurles
"Willie Mullins has three declared runners, but Gavin Cronwell’s ONLY BY NIGHT can confirm the form with Nara, especially as the step up in trip to 2m 5f should suit her just as much as Nara."

"A 2m Handicap Chase over 2m. Some Irish interest with JJ Slevin down to ride topweight Matata for Nigel Twiston-Davies and Henry de Bromhead’s Arctic Bresil is at the foot of the weights.
ETALON seems to come to himself around this time of year and won in January and February last year when winning at Warwick and following up at Sandown off marks of 127 and 131 respectively. He’s off 135 today and has had three runs this season without winning. It’s his time of year to strike though."

"The 2m 5f Horse & Jockey Hotel Chase sees Paul Townend ride Blood Destiny over his three other stablemates, APPRECIATE IT, Classic Getaway and Kilcruit. A very decent looking contest, and Blood Destiny’s form with Spillane’s Tower keeps him as one to keep onside.
I’d nearly favour Appreciate It on his homework, having had a run and getting 3lbs off Blood Destiny. I’m not really sure what Blood Destiny’s ideal trip is. Paul Townend seems to pick the right one more often than not, though."
2:30 Windsor
"A 3m handicap hurdle for a good pot and JIPCOT catches my eye. He won over 2m 4f last time and Newbury and it didn’t look likely for most of the way. He then got going and won going away in the end to score impressively. The extra four furlongs now can help in his quest to carry an 8lb penalty."
2:45 Fakenham
"A 2m 4f mares handicap hurdle where STAR WALKING can uphold the form with Game Colours, who she beat a head at Wincanton last time over 2m 5f off level weights. Trainer Harry Fry is having a quiet enough season but can combine with Brian Hughes to win this contest."
3:05 Windsor
"More Irish involvement in the feature race with Darragh O’Keeffe down to ride Journey With Me for Henry de Bromhead. Protektorat is 3lbs better off with Djelo now on their Huntingdon run in the Peterborough Chase, but I can’t see Protektorat reversing the form on those terms. Providing the ground is on the slow side or is proper soft ground, DJELO looks the most likely winner to me.
The now 10-year-old Protektorat was a good winner of the Ryanair Chase last season, but Djelo is improving and has just turned seven years old. He’s my best bet today."
3:40 Windsor
"Charles Byrnes’ runner FROM THE ASHES, should be noted in the market after pulling up on his last run and hasn’t set the world alight on two previous runs before that – but he has a habit of being in and out during his career and can put in good runs after pretty average runs. I’ll be following the money if it materialises for him."
Ruby Walsh's Horse Racing Tips
Since retirement, Ruby Walsh has been providing punters with some of the best horse racing tips of the Internet. He is an expert on the Irish racing in particular and with close links to Willie Mullins’ yard.
Who Is Ruby Walsh?
Ruby Walsh is one of the greatest jockeys to ever race and his name sounds familiar to everyone has a remote interest in this sport. He is third most prolific jump jockey in Britain and Ireland, behind only Richard Johnson and Sir Anthony McCoy.
Across his career, he won a whopping 2,756 races, including dozens of Grade 1s.
In his opening attempt at the Grand National in 2000 he won the race aged just 20, on board Papillon of his father Ted. The Irishman won his second Aintree showpiece five years later with Hedgehunter. He won all four Grand Nationals in the UK, a rare feat in the sport.
The County Kildare jockey has been successful on two occasions in the Cheltenham Gold Cup with Kauto Star, the blue riband in the national hunt racing. He rode more winners than any other jockey at the Cheltenham Festival with 59 successes and won the Top Jockey title at the festival on a total of 11 times.
Ruby is the son of trainer Ted Walsh, who rode as an amateur jockey in his younger days. His sister Katie has also followed in her father's footsteps as she too occasionally rides as an amateur.
Paul Townend is now Mullins' top jockey while Ruby Walsh is now Racing TV's star presenter and Paddy Power brand ambassador. He has quickly taken his expertise into the world of punditry, lighting up TV coverage and beyond.
