Sunderland enter this match on the back tow consecutive defeats to Southampton and Everton, and are currently three points off safety. Manchester City are enjoying their best run since they began the season with 10 consecutive wins, the only blot on their record in the last seven matches being a 0-0 draw away to Huddersfield in the FA Cup. Anyway, Guardiola's men had no problems in the replay match as they hammered the Terriers 5-1. They sit 3rd in the Premier League, one point behind 2nd placed Tottenham but with one game in hand (the derby against United). In terms of direct encounters, the Citizens have won their last 6 matches against Sunderland in all competitions scoring a total of 18 goals.
Aleksandar Kolarov and Vincent Kompany are both available for the trip to the Stadium of Light. Pep Guardiola, who is without long-term injured pair Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus, is expected to bring David Silva, Bacary Sagna and Willy Caballero into the starting XI. Yaya Toure is likely to start in the defensive midfield role, behind the four-man midfield of Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Leroy Sane.
