SAMOA v SCOTLAND BETTING PREVIEW Samoa beat the USA in their opener but there was no bonus point try and then they were soundly defeated 46-6 by South Africa. Then the Pacific Islanders were toppled by Japan in their recent outing with a 26-5 defeat, failing to register a point until the 65th minute by which time the game was out of their reach. Samoa are expected to go all out in this match as they will be desperate to lift their spirits and restore national pride. Furthermore, they currently sit at 4th place in Pool B, but if they beat Scotland and earn a bonus point, and the USA beat Japan and do not concede a bonus point, the Samoans will end third and gain automatic qualification for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Samoa have made seven changes to their starting line up. Winger Alesana Tuilagi received a 5-week ban after striking Japan's Harumichi Tatekawa with his knee last Saturday. Rey Lee-Lo and George Pisi will form a new centre pairing, while Maurie Faasavalu, Jack Lam and Alafoti Faosiliva will be together in the back row for the first time.

Scotland kicked off their campaign with two consecutive wins over Japan and USA but were bulldozed 34-16 by a rampant South Africa side last weekend. Victory over Samoa on Saturday will secure Scotland a place in the knockout rounds but if Scotland slip up against Samoa, Japan can take advantage when they meet the Americans on Sunday.

Scotland have named seven changes to the side who took to the field against the Springboks including a return for Finn Russell at fly half. Coach Vern Cotter has also recalled hard-running centre Mark Bennett in a near full-strength team.

This will be the third World Cup meeting between the sides; Scotland won both previous fixtures between the sides in the competition by margins of 15+ points. Anyway, the Samoan won the last direct match when the two sides last met, triumphing 27-17 in a quadrangular series match in Durban two years ago.

Recent results:

  • 2013: Samoa won 27-17, Durban
  • 2012: Scotland won 17-16, Apia
  • 2010: Scotland won 19-16, Aberdeen
