TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 7 BETTING PREVIEW
Unlike Thursday's stage, Stage 7 doesn't lend itself to a breakaway success as it is all about the finale. The profile doesn't offer much of a challenge until the riders reach the "Wall of Brittany".
The final 20km are the same as 2021, with a double ascent of the Mûr-de-Bretagne to the finish coming after one time up the Côte du Village de Mûr-de-Bretagne.
The final climb is perfect for earlier attacks. It features 500 metres at 10.1%, followed by 500 metres at 9.5%, then 500 metres at 5.5%, and a final 500 metres at 2.4%.
The first half has an average gradient of over ten per cent and it will thin the peloton out if they push as much as they can.
Stage 7 Favourites
Friday's stage will bring back for some happy memories for the current GC leader Mathieu Van der Poel as it ends with a double ascent of the iconic Mur de Bretagne, where he claimed his first Tour De France win and the yellow jersey in 2021. But how much will the Dutchman have left in the tank after the long breakaway on Thursday?
With two sprinters' days to follow at the weekend, a GC battle seems on the cards.
Pogacar, after all, was second on that day in 2021, in a Tour which he would go on to dominate. The way in which the Slovene dispensed of the rest of the field bar Vingegaard on the Rampe Saint-Hilaire make him the odds-on favorite for the stage win.
The Dane is Pogaçar's closest contender. He lost ground in time-trial but was only beaten at the sprint in Stage 2 and Stage 4. Vingegaard clearly prefers longer climbs, and his primary goal will be to chase Pogaçar.
Remco Evenepoel will have the same goal, more or less. Anyway, if Pogaçar and Vingegaard were to man-mark each other, the Belgian would be ready to take advantage of the situation.
Dark horses?
Joao Almeida and Matteo Jorgenson are well placed in the General Classification. They also have a good form but they will run to help their captains rather than for the stage win.
Primoz Roglic is beaten on this kind of climbs and will run conservatively. Florian Lipowitz has real chances only if he anticipates the attack.
Among the real punchers, the likes of Kevin Vauquelin, Oscar Onley and Romain Gregoire were able to keep up with the best on previous punch days while Thibau Nys, Aurelien Paret-Peintre, Wout Van Aert and Mattias Skjelmose were not brilliant as expected.
In case of breakaway, we are not sure team UAE Emirates will chase the attackers. Probably, they don't want to wear the yellow jersey too soon.
Riders such as Marc Hirschi, Neilson Powless, Axel Laurance, Lenny Martinez, Valentin Madouas, Julian Alaphilippe, Lennert Van Eetvelt and Ben Healy (we tipped him to win Stage 6 at 25/1!) would be the riders to keep an eye on..
