TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 7 BETTING PREVIEW

This time trial should have a big impact on the GC battle, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see a GC rider win it either.

Starting in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the course will first make its way through forested landscape, before entering the vineyards of the Côte-d'Or region on their way to the finish in Gevrey-Chambertin.

The 25.3km course includes one climb, the Côte de Curtil-Vergy (1.6km at 6.1 percent), summiting just after the halfway mark.

Overall, the profile is predominantly flat, and therefore a chance both for the specialists against the clock to compete with the GC contenders for the stage win.

Stage 7 Favourites

Remco Evenepoel is the odds-on favourite. The Soudal-Quick Step captain is currently sitting in second on the GC and will likely use this stage to claw back a few seconds between himself and the top spot. The Belgian is the current world time trial champion, and he won a 34.4km time trial at the Critérium du Dauphiné in early-June.

Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard are the other two GC contenders that can be considered ITT specialists. The Slovenian finished 1st and 2nd in the two time-trials at the Giro d'Italia but suffered a heavy defeat last year in the only time trial in last year’s Tour de France., when Jonas Vingegaard put 1:38 into his main rival over the course of just 22.4km.

The profile also suits Wout van Aert, who came into the Tour De France on uncertain form but who has also looked pretty good thus far. The Belgian tested his legs on Thursday's sprint and the feeedback was pretty positive.

Olympic time trial champion Primož Roglic comes next. He has not looked brilliant as his main rivals on the first demanding climbs at this Tour, and was 39 seconds behind Evenepoel in the time-trial at the Dauphinè last month.

Dark horses?

Juan Ayuso could be the surprise package, unless he decides to save energies to help his captain Pogaçar in this weekend's stages.

Another rider who can fight for the podium will be Stefan Bissegger, who finished second in the Swiss National Championships behind Stefan Kung, another potential contender here.

Bruno Armirail (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), Søren Wærenskjold (Uno-X Mobility), and Geraint Thomas (Inoes Grenadiers) are other riders that should finish in the Top 10.
