What is the Arc De Triomphe?
The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is one of the most prestigious races in the sport and it is run at Paris-Longchamp racecourse in Paris, France.
The Arc, as it's often called, is open to horses of three years old and older and it's run over a distance of 2414m (Or 1m4f).
It is traditionally run on the first Sunday in October. hence, the 2023 renewal of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe will take place on Sunday 1st October.
Who is the favorite to win the Arc De Triomphe this year? There are 15 runners in the Arc De Triomphe 2023, giving punters a pretty firm idea of how the race could shape up.
Ace Impact tops the market, but he's a little too short in the betting for a horse who's yet to prove his stamina over 12 furlongs.
He has enjoyed an unbeaten three-year-old campaign, including victories in the Prix du Jockey Club and the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano and most bookies list Jean Claude Rouget's runner as the firm favourite.
2023 Arc De Triomphe Betting Preiew
ACE IMPACT is the odds on favourite. The a three-year-old colt trained by Jean-Claude Rouget has not yet lost a race in his career. The fav takes on the distance of the Arc De Trimphe for the first time ever. Anyway, he has already won the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club in June at Chantilly and the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville in August beating Al Riffa to the line.
HUKUM is six year old and 6yo horses have never won the Arc before. He recently registered a second Group 1 win by defeating Westover in a cracking King George at Ascot (1m4f) when last seen, taking career record to 11-17. His two outings prior to that were out of the top drawer too, beating Pyledriver in the Coronation Cup before getting the better of Desert Crown over 1m2f in the Brigadier Gerard on his return from a layoff.
WESTOVER is third in the betting and surely can improve on last year’s sixth in the race. He proved no match for Equinox in Dubai in March but but his easy win in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in July was followed by a narrow second behind Hukum in the King George at Ascot. There is no disguising that he has improved since last year and that’s even after winning an Irish Derby, as well as a 3rd in the English version.
CONTINUOS had to be supplemented for the race at a huge cost of €120,000 (£104,000). He finished well beaten by a wide margin in the French Derby but he has since won comfortably at both York and in the St Leger at Doncaster a month later.
FANTASTIC MOON also had to be supplemented, with connections swayed by the favourable weather forecast. He stayed on well to beat Feed The Flame in the Prix Niel over course and distance few weeks ago, adding to his success in the German Derby and taking record at 1m4f to 2-2. He has won four of his six starts and has yet to finish out of the frame in all career starts.
FEED THE FLAME remains lightly raced, but he has already shown a level of form that could be good enough to win. He recently beat Adelaide River and Oaks winner Soul Sister in the Grand Prix de Paris. Anyway, he struggled a bit in the Prix Niel, when ultimately he blew up behind Fantastic Moon.
BAY BRIDGE recently land a Group 3 last time at Kempton, a race Enable had won prior to her Arc assignments. Prior to that, he had a couple of disappointing outings after winning the Champion Stakes last year.
Japanese contender THROUGH SEVEN SEAS impressively won in January and March at Nakayama Racecourse in Japan, before heading into the Grade 1 Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin where he finished placed a neck behind Equinox.
SISFAHAN is an interesting 100/1 long shot. He finished just a length off Arc winners Torquator Tasso and Alpinista back in 2021 and has solid form at this distance.
