Australia Women vs England Women Betting Preview

Australia reached their first ever Women’s World Cup semi-final by edging out France on penalties, after regular time and extra time finished goalless. The Matildas have looked vulnerable in group stage when losing 3-2 to Nigeria and narrowly beating Ireland 1-0. Anyway, they hammered Canada 4-0 in the third group stage game and beat Denmark 2-0 in the last-16 round. As a result, the co-hosts have kept 4 clean sheets in five matches so far.

England are in the last four for the third Women's World Cup in a row, set up a clash against the Matildas with a 2-1 quarter-final victory over Colombia despite being outshot by five in the match, 15 to 10. The Lionesses have the chance to seek revenge for their only loss under Sarina Wiegman after Australia secured a 2-0 win in a friendly match in April to end their 30-game unbeaten run. The reigning European champions won all three group stage matches - 1:0 over Haiti and Denmark, 6-1 against China. Sarina Wiegman's girls then knocked out Nigeria on penalties in the last-16 round.

As already mentioned, these two sides met in an April friendly at Brentford Community Stadium, when Australia's Samantha Kerr and Charlotte Grant scored in a surprising 2-0 win over the Lionesses that ended England’s 30-game unbeaten run.

Best Odds

England go into their semifinal clash with Australia as favourites. Sarina Wiegman's side are 6/4 to win in 90 minutes with Betfred.

The Matildas can be backed at 5/2 (with Coral) with the draw currently available at 21/10 (with Bet365).

Probable Line-Ups

Australia Women (4-4-2): Arnold; Carpenter, Hunt, Kennedy, Catley; Raso, Gorry, Cooney-Cross, Catley; Fowler, Van Egmond

Australia's captain and star striker Sam Kerr played 66 minutes last time out and is close to be being fully fit. Head coach Tony Gustavsson is facing another big decision as to whether or not to start her. He is likely to stick by his starting attack formed by Mary Fowler and Emily Van Egmond, supported by Hayley Raso and Caitlin Foord from the wings. The back four of Ellie Carpenter, Clare Hunt, Alanna Kennedy and Steph Catley will be looking to help their country keep a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

England Women (3-5-2): Earps; Carter, Bright, Greenwood; Bronze, Walsh, Stanway, Daly; Toone; Hemp, Russo

The Lionesses will still be without Lauren James as she serves the final game of her two-match suspension. Aside from that, Sarina Wiegman has a fully fit squad elsewhere. She kept her 3-5-2 formation against Colombia and is unlikely to make any changes Keira Walsh's return from a knee injury sustained in the group stages has buoyed the squad and she will retain her starting berth. Gerorgia Stanway will play alongside her. The back three of Jess Carter, Millie Bright and Alex Greenwood has excelled in front of goalkeeper Mary Earps, with Lucy Bronze and Rachel Daly set to continue as wing-backs. Alessia Russo and Lauren Hemp both scored against Colombia and are set to lead the line. Beth England and Chloe Kelly provide further alternatives.

Our Australia Women vs England Women Predictions

England have not exactly set the tournament alight with their football. Their victories have been slender, with the exception of a 6-1 thrashing of China.

On the other side, Australia regrouped after a surprise loss to Nigeria on matchday two and have grown into the tournament. The Matildas have got better with each passing game.

The 2-0 victory over England in a friendly in April will also give them extra confidence. Furthermore, they will play in a jam-packed stadium cheering for them.

As a result, the double chance "Australia to win or draw in 90 minutes" and "Australia to qualify" look tempting.

We do not expect a high-scoring affair, so the 1-0 Australia win or the 1-1 draw are our selected scoreline.
