NEWCASTLE vs MANCHESTER CITY BETTING PREVIEW
Newcastle earned a first win in 10 games with a 3-2 victory at London Stadium against West Ham to ensure they moved out of the bottom three. Before that, they had lost eight of their last nine. They have lost their last four home league games and have not suffered five in a row since a club-record run of six in 1953. They are averaging less than a goal a game this season and are without a clean sheet in the last 10 games. In terms of direct matches, the Magpies have lost 12 of their last 13 league games against Man City.
Rafa Benitez may keep changes to a minimum for this fixture. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Jesus Gamez are the only injury concerns for the hosts. Mikel Merino and Isaac Hayden are suffering with knocks but are expected to feature from the off. Jonjo Shelvey is available again after serving a suspension for his red card against Everton but may have to settle for a place on the bench here. Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu should retain their starts out wide, with Jacob Murphy the main alternative. Joselu and Dwight Gayle could continue in attack, with Ayoze Perez the main alternative.
Manchester City look unstoppable this season as they have only dropped 2 points in Premier League and currently hold a 13-point lead after 19 games. It was business as usual for City with a 4-0 victory at home to Bournemouth last weekend, their 17th consecutive win in the top flight. They have won their last 10 away league games, including all nine this season, and scored four goals in each of their last three league games, against Swansea, Tottenham and Bournemouth. The Citizens have already racked up 60 goals in 19 matches so far.
Gabriel Jesus was an unused substitute against Bournemouth and is expected to lead the line. Vincent Kompany returned from injury in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth, but Pep Guardiola could decide to rest the Belgian for this trip. David Silva returned against the Cherries, but Ilkay Gunodgan is a viable starter at St James’ Park in place of the Spaniard. John Stones is closing in on a return while Phil Foden is out for the foreseeable, joining long-term absentee Benjamin Mendy on the sidelines.
