Newcastle have won 6 of their last 7 home matches in Premier League

Newcastle currently sit in 13th place in the Premier League - having been as low as 18th back in January - after a 1-1 draw against Brighton at the weekend. They are enjoing a good period of form having won six of their last seven at St. James’ Park, including a victory over Man City. With safety guaranteed, Newcastle can play without pressure as they aim to make it seven wins from their last eight home league matches. The Magpies have only lost one of their last seven league encounters against Liverpool at home. The match at Anfield earlier this season saw Rafa Benitez's men suffering a 4-0 defeat.

Ayoze Perez, who limped off in the first half of Saturday's draw with Brighton seven days ago, has been passed fit and will feature from the off, supporting Salomon Rondon upfront. January signing Miguel Almiron is sidelined because of a hamstring issue, meaning that Christian Atsu is the only viable alternative as winger. Ki Sung-yueng or Mohamed Diame could return alongside Isaac Hayden in midfield, with Jonjo Shelvey likely to make way. Javier Manquillo continues to keep DeAndre Yedlin out of the side at right-back/wing-back, while Jamaal Lascelles should be fully recovered to start as centre back between Paul Dummett and Fabian Schar. The likes of Sean Longstaff and Florian Lejeun remain sidelined.

Liverpool enter this clash on the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Barcelona in the Champions League semifinal 1st leg last Wednesday, seeing a 10-game winning run and 19-match unbeaten streak come to an end. Domestically, the Reds are one point shy of leaders Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings with just two games left to play. They demolished the relegated Huddersfield last weekend to make it 15 league games unbeaten. As to direct encounters against Newcastle, Jurgen Klopps men hav bagged six goals without any response in the last two meetings with the Magpies. Only two of the last seven meetings between the teams have ended with more than two goals scored.

Naby Keita will miss the remainder of the campaign after picking up a groin injury at the Camp Nou. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be part of the match-day squad and is perhaps the more like-for-like replacement for the former Leipzig midfielder. Up front, Roberto Firmino was only fit enough for the bench at Camp Nou and should return to the starting XI, completing the usual offensive trio along with Sadio Manè and Mo Salah. The likes of Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri are all options to stand in for Firmino should he not be risked from the start. Trent Alexander-Arnold will surely return at right-back after Joe Gomez started in midweek. Dejan Lovren could give Joel Matip a breather and partner Virgil Van Dijk as centre back.
