Man UTD have lost just one of their last 34 top flight home meetings with this opposition

Manchester UTD enter this clash after a disappointing loss to Watford last time out, bringing an end to their seven-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. They are now seven points off fourth-placed Chelsea and their tally of 25 points is their lowest ever at this stage of a Premier League campaign despite winning back to back games over Tottenham and Man City earlier this month. As to direct encounters, Man UTD lost 1-0 the reverse match at St. James' Park few months ago but the Red Devils are unbeaten against Newcastle at Old Trafford in England's top flight since December 2013.

The hosts definitely remain without Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah due to injuries, while Diogo Dalot and Marcos Rojo are doubts. Paul Pogba is likely to start after making his comeback from injury as a substitute last time out while Mason Greenwood's positive cameo against Watford could earn him a start at the expense of Daniel James. Attack remains a concern, as only Watford and Crystal Palace have scored less goals than Steve Bruce's men. The Magpies  beat United 1-0 in the reverse fixture this season and are aiming to complete their first league double over United since the 1930/31 campaign.

After a run of starts, Andy Carroll looks likely to drop on bench. As a result, Brazilian striker Joelington in expected to lead the line. Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Sean Longstaff should feature from the off in the middle park. At the back, Paul Dummett suffered a groin injury against Palace and is likely to miss out on Boxing Day while Jetro Willems remains a major doubt. The likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Matt Ritchie, Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark are definetely out through injury.
