Manchester United v Chelsea Betting Preview
Manchester UTD men saw their three-match winning streak ended by Newcastle United (1-0 defeat at St. James' Park), their 6th defeat of the campaign that saw them continuing their woeful record against teams in the top half. Erik Ten Hag's men have a W4 L3 home record in the league so far. They have scored just 7 goals in 7 games at Old Trafford (three of them against Nottingham Forest). As to the Champions League, the Red Devils have collected just 4 points in 5 games. They sit at the bottom of their group and need a miracle in the final match to qualify to the knockout stage.
Chelsea enter this clash on the back of an encouraging 3-2 victory over Brighton after going down to 10 men for half the match. Mauricio Pochettino's side now sit 10th in the table, five points behind United. The Blues have been inconsistent, but that is not a surprise given they have the youngest squad in the Premier League. Unlike Man UTD, they tend to raise their game in matches against the Big 6 as they have shared the spoils at home against Liverpool (1-1), Arsenal (2-2) and Man City (4-4) and defeated Tottenham (1-4) in North London last month.
As to direct encounters, the Red Devils' 4-1 win in May ended this fixture's run of five consecutive draws. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 11 matches against Chelsea in the Premier League.
Best Odds
Although they are three places and five points better off than Chelsea, Manchester United enter the contest as underdogs with Unibet, one of the top football betting sites, offering a best price of 19/10 on a home win. The draw is backable at 13/5 with BetVictor while the Red Devils are 17/10 with BetGoodwin.
Probable Line-Ups
Man UTD (4-2-3-1): Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; Amrabat, McTominay; Antony, Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund
Mason Mount is in a race to be fit to face his former club, but he can't be considered a regular starter having struggled since his summer transfer so far. The likes of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, Tyrell Malacia and Amad Diallo are out through injury while Jadon Sancho is still missing due to disciplinary reasons. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were below par against Newcastle and could be replaced by Antony and Rasmus Hojlund. In midfield, Sofiane Amrabat is expected to replace Kobbie Mainoo and partner Scott McTominay.
Chelsea (4-3-3): Sanchez; James, Thiago Silva, Badiashile, Colwill; Caicedo, Fernandez; Palmer, Mudryk, Sterling; Jackson
Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is banned after being shown a second yellow card against Brighton. Reece James and Marc Cucurella are back from their suspensions. and the former is expected to start at right back. Levi Colwill is likely to feature on the left flank, with Benoit Badiashile and Thiago Silva paired at the heart of the back. Cole Palmer is likely to feature from the off, supporting the lone striker Nicolas Jackson alongside Raheem Sterling and Mikhailo Mudryk. In the middle of the park, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez look sure starters. Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka are injured but Malo Gusto, Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku could all be available.
Our Manchester United v Chelsea Predictions
It's a tough match to predict. Both sides will be looking to make a statement after a season that has already had a number of ups and downs.
It is a game that could go either way, and it really does depend on which Manchester United side and which Chelsea side decides to turn up. Stars on both sides have been accused of failing to show up this season, but if they do then it could be the difference.
The only real guarantee is goals, with both defences unable to keep a clean sheet.
Ten Haag seems to have lost the control of the team and the pressure is mounting on him. Andrè Onana has been a disaster in his first months as Man UTD goalkeeper and the backline seems unable to protect him.
Pochettino's men are in better form at the moment and should be able to win this game.
Hence, we go for a 2-1 Chelsea win at Old Trafford.
