MANCHESTER CITY v MANCHESTER UTD BETTING PREVIEWNew Man City manager Pep Guardiola returned to his former club Bayern Munich last Wednesday night and watched his Citizens lose 1-0 at the Allianz Arena in which the German side fielded a much stronger team, certainly for the first half when Guardiola sent out five rookies and a few more after the break. Despite a side filled with young talent, City showed a refreshing willingness to press high for the ball and take the game to their illustrious but equally understaffed hosts.
The Citizens have recruited Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, Celta Vigo’s Nolito and FC Ufa’s Oleksandr Zinchenko so far. Media reports suggest that Schalke’s Leroy Sane, Palmeira's Gabriel Jesus and Everton’s John Stones might are closing in on transfers to the Etihad Stadium. Man City are without Kevin De Bruyne, Eliaquim Mangala and Bacary Sagna but they have been boosted by the arrival in China of Sergio Aguero, Jason Denayer, Joe Hart, Nolito, Nicolas Otamendi, David Silva and Raheem Sterling. Kelechi Iheanacho is in contention with Wilfried Bony for a starting berth up front.
Man UTD have more match practice in this preseason, having won 2-0 away to Wigan Athletic and played Borussia Dormund last Friday. Against BVB, the Red Devils suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat. Their only goal was scored by former Dortmund player Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Of course,
Jose Mourinho is expected to change his team and try different combinations of players. Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata all played full matches last time out and they could be rotated. The Portuguese manaager could introduce David de Gea after watching fellow goalkeepers Sam Johnstone and Sergio Romero struggle on Friday, whilst Rashford might be involved again. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial will both miss the match as well as Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin.
