Liverpool vs Manchester United betting preview
Liverpool have not dropped points at Anfield in the Premier League since January 30 2019Liverpool sit on a massive 14-point lead with one hand seemingly on the title. The Reds will open up a huge 20-point gap over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side if they are victorious on Sunday afternoon. Last weekend's 1-0 victory over Tottenham ensured that Jurgen Klopp's men have now registered more points at this stage of a season than any club has ever managed in the history of Europe's top five leagues, amassing 61 from the 63 on offer. They have won 20 of their 21 Premier League matches this season and are a perfect 11 from 11 at Anfield. As to direct encounters, Liverpool are undefeated in 9 of their last 10 matches against Man Utd in all competitions but they have only won once in 11 league encounters against their fiercest rivals.
The likes of Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and, crucially, Fabinho are all back in training while James Milner and Nathaniel Clyne remain sidelined. Liverpool's regular front three look poised to start for the sixth league game in a row, with Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and new signing Takumi Minamino providing back-up off the bench. The form of Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson leaves their involvement in little doubt in midfield, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain favourite over Adam Lallana for the remaining berth in the middle of the park. No changes are expected at the back.
Man UTD have won just two of their last eight away games across all competitionsThe Red Devils did well to crush Norwich City 4-0 at their Old Trafford at the weekend and followed up with a narrow 1-0 win over Wolves in the FA Cup 3rd round. It was their second victory (and clean sheet) in a row after a 1-3 defeat in the EFL Cup against Man City on 7th January. Man UTD are the only team to have taken points off Liverpool in the Premier League this season. Anyway, their campaign has been underwhelming so far. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men remain five points adrift of the Champions League places and have accrued their lowest points tally at this stage of a season since 1989-90. In their last meeting against Liverpool at Anfield Road the Red Devils suffered a 3-1 defeat.
Marcus Rashford is a major doubt this weekend after being forced off in Wednesday's FA Cup win over Wolves. With Paul Pogba absent for the foreseeable future too, their attacking options are pretty limited. Andreas Pereira may come in for Mason Greenwood from midweek alongside Juan Mata, while Jesse Lingard and Daniel James could be handed a start. Nemanja Matic, Fred and Anthony Martial look like more secure starters given the dearth of options in central midfield and up front. Brandon Williams is expected to start as right back, completing the four man backline with Viktor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Former captain Ahsley Young has moved to Inter Milan. Marcos Rojo, Axel Tuanzebe, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are all out through injury.
