Fiorentina currenly sit 7th in the Serie A table, three points below the Europa League places (but 6th placed Sampdoria have a game in hand). Stefano Pioli's men are unbeaten in the last 8 league matches. They have beaten Sassuolo (3-0), Sampdoria (3-2) and Cagliari (1-0 away) and shared the spoils with SPAL (1-1), Lazio (1-1), Napoli (0-0), Genoa (0-0) and AC Milan (1-1). In Coppa Italia, they were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Lazio in the last 16 round on 26th December. The "Viola" have an impressive record at home: just three defeats in the last 29 matches on their own turf, three wins in the last three direct encounters with Inter Milan at the Artemio Franchi stadium.

Stefano Pioli will play with his usual 4-3-3 system. In defense, German Pezzella and Mario Gaspar are major doubts, but the former is expected to form the central pair with Davide Astori. Otherwise, Vitor Hugo will deputise in his place. No changes are expected in midfield where Milan Badelj, Marco Benassi and Jordan Veretout will feature from the off. Up front, Federico Chiesa is likelty to return in the starting XI, completing the offensive line with Cyril Thereau and Giovanni Simeone.

Inter Milan are winless in the last 6 matches in all the competitions (four in Serie A). The Nerazzurri have dropped in 3rd position in the league standings and have been knocked out of the Coppa Italia. After they only beat third division outfit Pordenone on penalties, Luciano Spalletti's men suffered 1-0 extra-time defeat at the hands of AC Milan in the quarter finals of the Italian cup. Inter have only scored a single goal in the last 6 games, at home against Udinese in a match they lost 1-3. Dropping points here would probably see both Lazio and Roma leapfrogging the Nerazzurri, as they both are in touching distance and with a game in hand.

Roberto Gagliardini, Matías Vecino and Borja Valero are expected to start in midfield, with the Spaniard expected to play in a more offensive position behind the lone striker Mauro Icardi. This would see Marcelo Brozovic and Joao Mario benched once again. Out wide, Ivan Perisic and Antonio Candreva will retain their spot, with Eder and Yann Karamoh ready to play in case of need. In defense, Joao Miranda and Danilo D'Ambrosio are out through injury and the likes of Joao Cancelo and Andrea Ranocchia are likely to join Davide Santon and Milan Skriniar to form the four man backline. Yuto Nagatomo and Dalbert provide further options at left-back.
