COUNTY HANDICAP HURDLE BETTING PREVIEW

The County Hurdle is one of the most difficult races to back a winner at the Cheltenham National Hunt Racing Festival. It's a Grade 3 National Hunt handicap hurdle race, run over two miles and one furlong, for horses aged five years and upwards. The race always attracts the maximum field, making it full of potentially well handicapped horses, who all will fancy their chances of winning.

Willie Mullins has saddled four of the last ten winners so expect him to have a good chance in the 2020 County Handicap Hurdle once again.

And now we'll take a closer look at this year's Randox Health County Handicap Hurdle and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.

CIEL DE NEIGE was pipped to the post by Pic D’Orhy in the Betfair Hurdle on his most recent outing. He is clearly ahead of this mark despite failing to win in seven runs over hurdles so far,

MOHAAYED won the 2018 renewal and finished 7th in this very race last year. So far the seven-year-old hasn’t quite been in the same form this term but Dan Skelton's charge could be racing off a handicap mark some 8lbs lower than when beaten 9 lengths in last year’s County Hurdle.

SAINT ROI is totally unexposed. The French recruit struck at the second time of asking for new connections in Tramore maiden on New Year's Day, beating Arcadian Sunrise by 9 lenghts. Willie Mullins and Barry Geraghty are on fire at this year's Festival.

ARAMON has never ran in a handicap before. He will be carrying a big weight here. Last time out he was 5th to Honeysuckle in a Grade 1 contest and last March was a decent 6th in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. He should be very competitive off this mark now having first start in handicap.

ADJALI was a very useful juvenile last term, reaching frame in Grade 1s. He won on his debut in a small race but has since been a beaten favourite in three of his last five starts. He has had a wind op and has been kept fresh since then.

BUILDMEUPBUTTERCUP has won just one of her six hurdle races, on debut in fact, but she ran very well at the Festival last year in the Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. She moved up another level when finishing second to Janadil last time out.

Dark horses?

THATSY went off the mark over hurdles in Navan maiden in November and has bettered that form in a couple of big-field handicaps at Leopardstown since. He was a good 4th of 25 at the Christmas meeting and then last time out was 9th in a very competitive handicap at the same venue in February.

SCARAMANGA has shown flashes of real ability over hurdles. Most recently at Wincanton in December, where Paul Nicholls’ five-year-old powered to an impressive victory in a competitive 15-horse handicap. Either side of that win, there have been a couple of disappointing results in higher-profile races.

SIR VALENTINE opened his account at Newbury in a novice hurdle and has since ran well in defeat in a couple of Grade 3 handicaps at Ascot and last timeout in the Betfair Hurdle, when he finished a close 4th behind the likes of Pic D’Orhy and Ciel De Neige.

STOLEN SILVER ran a good race in the Betfair Hurdle and his current mark doesn't look too bad. Nigel Twiston-Davies charge could be the very surprise package of the day.

ELDORADO ALLEN has disappointed since returning from an absence but has an unexposed profile and could upset the odds.

CRISTOPHER WOOD quickly made up into useful hurdler last term and back on track after 2 lesser runs to start this season. He finished 9th behind Champion Hurdle winner Epatante at Newbury earlier in the season. He bolted up in a Musselburgh handicap when last seen and was raised 10lbs for that.

ELUSIVE BELLE is a dual novice hurdle winner who shaped well when third to Epatante in listed handicap at Newbury on seasonl reappearance. She was beaten by Miranda when second of 10 on her latest outing in a hurdle race at Kempton in December last year.

YOU RAISED ME UP, MOON OVER GERMANY, TIGER TAP TAP, OAKLEY and RATHILL also have ambition to make the frame.
