Chelsea v Manchester City Betting Preview
Chelsea will be looking to move three points closer to a top-four finishChelsea had to come from behind in their opener to beat struggling Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park. The Blues are unbeaten in their last four league games, winning each of their last two home games before the break, beating Everton (4-0) and Tottenham (2-1). They currently sit 4th in the top-flight table, 4 points shy of Leicester with a game in hand, with Manchester UTD and Wolves 5 points behind them. Frank Lampard's men put up a good fight in the previous tie against City back in November - suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat.
Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta would seem to be the Chelsea boss's first-choice full-back pairing, with Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger starting as centre backs. Kurt Zouma and Marcos Alonso provide further options in defense. No changes are expected in midfield and up front: Jorginho will be flanked by N'Golo Kantè and Mateo Kovacic, while Olivier Giroud should get the nod over Tammy Abraham as central striker. Willian and Mason Mount are likely to start out wide although Pedro, Christian Pulisic and (if fit) Callum Hudson-Odoi will provide stiff competition for the roles on the wing.
Manchester City have been in flawless form since the Premier League resumedMan City have scored eight goals without conceding in their first two matches after the lockdown, having beaten Arsenal 3-0 and Burnley 3-0. The Citizens have kept a clean sheet in 5 of their last 7 matches and sit comfortably 2nd in the Premier League standings, 8 points above 3rd placed Leicester with one game in hand. They’ve gone W5-D1-L6 up against the top eight in the table this season, with four of those wins coming against the ‘Overperforming’ sides Leicester City and Sheffield United. As to direct encounters, Pep Guardiola's men have won the last three meetings between these sides.
As confirmed by Man City official site, Sergio Aguero damaged his knee last time out and will missa couple of weeks at least. Gabriel Jesus may be handed an extended run up front, then, although Raheem Sterling has deputised as a false nine on a number of occasions. Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte and Kevin De Bruyne will be also recalled in west London, with that quartet having been benched against Burnley. Riyad Mahrez is the in-form man and is expected to retain his starting berth. Bernardo Silva and the impressive Phil Foden are alternatives out wide or in deeper midfield roles.
