BURNLEY vs CHELSEA BETTING PREVIEW
Burnley enter this clash on the back of five consecutive victories in Premier League as they beat Leicester City at the weekend. The Clarets are just a couple of points behind Arsenal, meaning a victory against Chelsea here would take them into sixth (if only temporarily). Sean Dyche’s side have a nine-point lead over eighth-place Leicester City heading into the midweek fixtures. Should they go on to finish in seventh, they will achieve a place in the Europa League. Burnley have scored at least 2 goals in their last 5 matches but have managed just one clean sheer in the last 13 outings. Their home record against Top 6 clubs has not been great so far, with their only point coming courtesy of a 1-1 home draw against Man City in February.
Sean Dyche will be reluctant to make changes. Kevin Long has performed well in Ben Mee's absence and may be rewarded with another start at the heart of the Clarets' defence, alongside Stephen Ward, James Tarkowski and Matthew Lowton. In midfield, Jeff Hendrick was handed minutes off the bench against Leicester on Saturday and could challenge Ashley Westwood for a starting role. Johan Gudmundsson and Aaron Lennon wil keep their berth oput wide, while Sam Vokes is unlikely to oust Ashley Barnes or Chris Wood up front. Jon Walters is close to make his return while Scott Arfield, Steven Defour and Robbie Brady remain sidelined.
Chelsea currently sit 5th in the Premier League standings, 8 points behind Tottenham in fourth. A thrilling 3-2 comeback win at Southampton over the weekend - coupled with Spurs's home defeat to Manchester City - have given Antonio Conte's men renewed hope of Champions League qualification. That was only their third victory in their last nine games. They have won just two Premier League away games since the 3-1 win at Huddersfield Town four months ago. Furthermore, the Blues suffered a 3-2 defeat against Bunrley in the Premier League opening match at Stamford Bridge back in August.
Olivier Giroud seems set to lead the line at Turf Moor at the expense of Alvaro Morata as the Frenchman scored a brace last time out. Marcos Alonso has been charged by the FA following an incident with Shane Long on Saturday and it remains to be seen whether he will be available. The Spaniard could be replaced by Emerson Palmieri, with Victor Moses likely to get the nod over Davide Zappacosta on the other flank. Cesc Fabregas and Ngolo Kantè will start in the middle of the park, with Willian and Eden Hazard retaining their berth as offensive midfielders. Pedro, Ross Barkley and Tiemoue Bakayoko are potential alternatives. In defense, Antonio Rudiger and Gary Cahill are in contention while David Luiz and Ethan Ampadu are out through injury.
