BRIGHTON v MANCHESTER CITY BETTING PREVIEW
Brighton were on course to be crowned Championship title winners until conceding a last-minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa on the closing day of last season, but automatic promotion had already been secured. The Seagulls have brought in no fewer than eight new players and we expect them to cause a few shocks at the Amex Stadium this season where they conceded only 14 goals last term and racked up 17 wins out of 23 games. They can generally be satisfied with pre-season results in spite of the defeat to Atletico Madrid (2-3 last Sunday). Prior to that, they drew 1-1 against Norwich and beat Southend (3-0), Crawley Town (6-0) and Fortuna Dusseldorf (2-0).Chris Hughton will be without Beram Kayal and Sam Baldock for the opening match. With Baldock out injured, Davy Propper, Pascal Gross or Izzy Brown may support Glenn Murray in attack. Anthony Knockaert is expected to play despite he missed much of pre-season due to an ankle injury. Solly March is also expected to recover from a knee injury in time. Bruno, Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy and Markus Suttner are expected to form the back four in front of goalkeeper Mat Ryan.
Altough they finished 3rd last year, Manchester City go into the new season as the title favourites. The Citizens have moved to fix the defensive problems that plagued them last year by signing the likes of Ederson from Benfica, Benjamin Mendy from Monaco, Danilo from Real Madrid and Kyle Walker from Tottenham. The only new face up front is the former Monaco offensive midfielder Bernardo Silva. City's pre-season has been promising. After a 2-0 defeat in the Manchester Derby, the Citizens hammered 4-1 Real Madrid, 3-0 Tottenham and 3-0 West Ham in their last outing.
Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan are the only player that will miss the trip. Pep Guardiola is expected to favour a three-man backline, so John Stones looks set to join Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi in defence. Fenandinho and Yaya Tourè are in contention for a starting berth in midfield, while David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne will feature from the off. Danilo and new signing Kyle Walker will play as wing backs while Gabriel Jesus will partner Sergio Aguero up front. Anyway, Guardiola have a number of attacking alternatives, including Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and new signing Bernardo Silva.
