Besiktas come from a shock 1-0 defeat to mid-table outfit Eskisehirspor on Sunday, the second consecutive loss with that scoreline which resulted in them losing their position at the top of the Turkish league. They are, however, unbeaten in six European home games

Ersan Gulum and Ramon Motta are banned and Ismail Kobayasi, Tolga Zengin, Cenk Tosun and Alexander Milosevic are out injured. Top scorer Demba Ba missed the weekend's domestic defeat due to a calf injury and is doubt.

Liverpool extended their winning run to four matches at the weekend, with the team beating Southampton (2-0) at St. Mary’s Stadium. The Reds are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions and have a narrow advantage to protect, since they won 1-0 the 1st leg courtesy of a late Mario Baloetelli penalty at Anfield last week.

Brendan Rodgers is likely to field a depleted squad from the one which started against Southampton last weekend, in lieu of the crucial Manchester City clash scheduled for this weekend. Daniel Sturridge is widely expected to lead the attack but Steven Gerrard remains on the sidelines while Mamadou Sakho is unlikely to be risked. Lazar Markovic is suspended for the trip to Istanbul, with Jordon Ibe expected to start on the right flank once more. Philippe Coutinho has not travelled with the team, Jon Flanagan and Jordan Henderson will miss out through injury too.

Liverpool have won only once in five away games against Turkish sides and have failed to win any of their last four European away matches (D1 L3).
