ARC DE TRIOMPHE BETTING PREVIEW
TAGHROODA is the bookie favourite despite she was defeated for the first time in her career when Tapestry got the better of her close to home in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks over this distance at York in August.
The joint-favourite ECTOT outpointed subsequent French 2000 Guineas hero Karakonite over a mile on his reappearance at this track in April, but was forced to miss the Classics due to an injury. However, he was impressive when cosily seeing off his seven rivals in the Prix Niel, another key Arc trial, last month.
TREVE's awesome performance in last year's Arc seems like a distant memory now as she has faltered on a number of occasions this season, most recently in the Prix Vermeille on Arc Trials day.
The Japanese JUST A WAY beat the top class Gentildonna in a grade one at Toyko and hammering a top class field in Dubai in March. The Toyko run was over 10 furlongs, while the Meydan race was over just 9 furlongs, so there must be some doubt about his effectiveness over 12 furlongs.
St.Leger winner KINGSTON HILL, is another with serious credentials and will be facing his ideal race conditions with a fast run race over his optimum trip and he holds an obvious chance if there is some give in the ground.
HARP STAR has a series of good runs in the best company in Japan and showed excellent finishing speed for a middle-distance horse when second in the Japanese Oaks. Another good horse is GOLD SHIP as this horse won the Arima Kien back in December 2012, and seems to be just as good as ever recently.
DOLNIYA was an improving filly but looked one paced last time in the Vermeille behind Baltic Baroness but she is a three year old filly and they have an excellent record in the race.
CHICQUITA is a hugely difficult ride and went onto finish second to Treve in the Prix de Diane despite hanging all the way across the track and she did the exact same when winning the Irish Oaks. She ran well enough on her return behind Tarfasha.
PRINCE GIBRALTAR is interesting in the first time visor but he looked a difficult character last time out whilst the rest aren’t good enough.
FLINTSHIRE could only manage eighth in last year’s race behind Treve and has been beaten on all three starts this term while RULER OF THE WORLD remains a strong ocntender after his comfortable Prix Foy success although some may argue that he was flattered by a canny front-running ride from Frankie Dettori.
German-trained runner IVANHOWE was a surprise winner over Sea The Moon last time and is one of the stronger stayers in the line-up while the unbeaten AVENIR CERTAIN, winner of the French 1000 Guineas and Oaks, is accorded plenty of respect
