WEST HAM v ASTRA GIURGIU BETTING PREVIEW
A Mark Noble penalty was cancelled out by a late equaliser from Denis Alibec last week, leaving everything to play for in the London. The Hammers come into this fixture fresh off the back of hard-fought 1-0 victory at home against Bournemouth in their Premier League debut at the Olympic Stadium. Prior to that they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the first Premier League Monday night match.Andy Carroll sustained a knee injury during a substitute appearance against the Romanian team last week. Sofiane Feghouli, Andre Ayew and Aaron Cresswell remain on the sidelines while Dimitri Payet could feature and Manuel Lanzini is close to a return. Angelo Ogbonna could start in central defence while Reece Burke will play at left-back with Arthur Masuaku ineligible for this play-off round. Pedro Obiang could come into midfield.
Astra Giurgiu have started the new Romanian league season poorly, losing three and winning just one of their first five matches. They reached the Europa League play-off after the defeat to FC Copenhagen in the third round of UEFA Champions League. They held the Danes to a 1-1 draw at home and lost 3-0 in the away leg.
Manager Marius Sumudica is likely to again play his first-choice right-back, 32-year-old Romanian international Cristian Sapunaru, in a defensive midfield role with 30-year-old reserve Kristi Vangjeli filling in at full-back. Denis Alibec will start as central forward while Teixeira and Ionita are likely to play as offensive wingers.
The two teams actually met last season as well in Europa League and Astra qualified with a 4-3 aggregate win – but Astra was a much better team back then and West Ham wasn`t quite focused on Europa League.
