TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 13 BETTING PREVIEW
Chris Froome lost the leader's yellow jersey to Fabio Aru as France's Romain Bardet won stage 12 of the Tour de France in Peyragudes. The Team Sky rider cracked on the brutal uphill finish, finishing seventh. Whether Froome's style simply did not suit the punchy 2.4km final climb, or whether there are issues with his form this year, remains to be seen. Anyway, he will look for revenge on Friday stage, a short but intriguing stage with 3 climbs on the menu.- Km 31.0 - Col de Latrape (1 110 m) 5.6 kilometre-long climb at 7.3% - category 1
- Km 46.5 - Col d'Agnes (1 570 m) 10 kilometre-long climb at 8.2% - category 1
- Km 74.0 - Mur de Péguère (1 375 m) 9.3 kilometre-long climb at 7.9% - category 1
Hence, after Chris Froome's showing on Thursday, Astana and AG2R need to get riders in the break and Fabio Aru and Romain Bardet must look to drop the Brit in the steep last 3km, putting him out of the game as long as he is vulnerable. Anyway, Froome is a great descender these days, even if he is not as good as Bardet. So we might expect Froome to be up to something – possibly with the help of his team-mate Michal Kwiatkowski, another strong descender…
Rigoberto Uran was impressive in finishing second but he and George Bennett were later given 20-second time penalties for taking bottles in the final 10km. He is not one of the best descenders of the peloton, so we don't see him winning the stage.
Dan Martin will be a little disappointed with his final place on stage 12. The gradient in the final 400 metres of the climb looked ideal for him to launch one of his stinging attacks. Maybe, the effects of the crash on Sunday played their part and could be a negative psychological factor on the final descent.
Plus, we don't think we are going to see an Alberto Contador or Nairo Quintana showdown, as the duo appearout of form and demotivated. Mikel Landa will probably be in the break, but only to wait team instruction for the final stages.
French riders are almost duty bound to attack on their national day. Warren Barguil will be out front again, probably with the likes of Thibaut Pinot, Liliane Calmejane, Alexis Vuillermoz, Tony Gallopin and maybe Pierre Rolland.
Fabio Felline was impressive on a similar stage in La Vuelta last year and could be the dark horse today. Stephen Cummings and Thomas de Gendt were in the break on stage 12 and could be short of energies.
George Bennett, Tiesj Benoot, Serge Pauwels, Tim Wellens, Jarlinson Pantano and Primoz Roglic are other good long shots options.
